So uhhh check your meds before a piercing (TW: blood)

Just leaving this post here for anyone with a similar experience to find, because when I had just gotten these 3 helix piercings I was scared shitless since I could find nobody with nearly the same amount of bleeding as I was having.

This amount of blood was BRUTAL and almost impossible to clean up: it literally never stopped bleeding (I had to take my physics final whilst holding sterile bandages to my ear lmao), would only ever solidify into those hard chunks you can see after a whole night of sleeping completely still, and those were obviously hell to remove since they incapsulated the ends of the bars.

I thought I was doing something wrong when cleaning it, turns out that the SSRI that I had recently switched to has a side effect of delaying clotting. In my case, this meant not clotting at all basically. The ungodly reason I didn't know this information is that I had switched a few medications already and this was my 5th, so it ended up being quite literally the only time that I have ever forgotten to read a medication's instructions, and on top of that my doctor entirely forgot to mention it to me.

Luckily for me, like the others before it, this medication was doing nothing for me, so I was able to basically quit it on day 3 of having the piercing. Slowly it got better, and by day 6 the incessant bleeding had stopped (admittedly pretty fast, so I'm assuming that if you are having this issue you could expect to have to wait a little more than that while still being okay)

Pleeeaaase see a doctor if this happens so that they can take a look at your medication and decide whether to stop it or to give you something else to clot properly. DO NOT JUST QUIT YOUR MEDS, even if you realize they are the problem. I decided to rawdog the whole experience because I have always dealt with wounds and had a good working medical knowledge of my overall situation, so I knew what doctors were gonna do anyway. It is not a simple internet search however, your piercing can also very very easily get infected if it stays this open of a wound for long. I was lucky to already be in exam season and thus able to stay at home to rinse more often and be in a clean environment.

Hoping this can help someone and horrify someone else lmao.

Should I take it out ?

It just looks shallow to me after I had healed a bump. The last picture is the most recent.

Would this be a thing to do or just cope with earlobe.

I have somewhat larger earlobes and have two lobe piercings in each ear- done 20 years apart. My earlobe still looks just like empty to me 😂 would getting a stud (maybe a flat one) be possible here (aka is there enough room left for that) or just cope with the earlobe and get something else? I am open to basically anything so feel free to suggest your favorites!

Nsfw. Got a tongue piercing recently.

Looking for advice from smokers on how to best take care of it while healing without quitting smoking as I go through bad withdrawals when I do

Should i give up on this piercing?

i started spraying it 1-2x a day with saline spray. it’s getting gray and skin is sloughing off inside the piercing. normally i wash it off in the shower at the end of the day with plain soap and try not to touch it otherwise. I asked my doctor and piercer and they said keep doing what i’m doing, just make sure it’s dry… the doctor suggested aquaphor for the irritated skin since it’s constantly wet.

i do have a tendency to check it by moving the surrounding skin to see if the piercing bump has gone down at all— unfortunate compulsion of mine— but considering i work with kids and i’m constantly getting bumped or punched or elbowed or bending down i feel like i have to give up on this piercing. I’ve managed to curb the compulsive checking but it used to be really bad.

this piercing is about a month old. it’s just a straight barbell. I’m disappointed it ended up like this after a kid jumped on me about a month in. It used to weep clear fluid and blood constantly; after getting the saline spray, it just weeps blood. Maybe a little pus. it weeps the most after it gets nudged, or i move too much. I don’t know why it’s getting crusty but i’m assuming it’s the salt.

Will my 11-month-old conch close overnight

I was cleaning my 11-month-old conch piercing tonight. I wasn't doing anything different from my usual routine. I sprayed it with NeilMed saline and was gently drying around it with a Q-tip. I guess the jewelry had come loose because the entire labret (internally threaded titanium post and end) fell out pretty easily.

I tried putting the post back in, but it was slightly painful, so I stopped because I didn't want to force it or damage the piercing.

I contacted my piercer, and the earliest she can see me is 1:00 PM tomorrow. It's currently 10:30 PM where I am, so the piercing will be without jewelry for about 14–15 hours.

For those who've had something similar happen:

Did your conch stay open that long?

Was your piercer able to taper the jewelry back in?

Or did it close up completely?

I'm honestly really anxious since it's almost a year old, but I'm not sure if it's fully healed yet. Any experiences or advice would be appreciated.

A golden setup

Just to show off my piercings.

It’s not finished yet. I’m going to add two nostril piercings on the other side of my nose. And a low helix on the other ear. Then I’ll stop... That's what I said last year.

I’d also like some information, if possible here… websites where I can buy jewellery. US taxes have gone up and my piercer (France) is raising her prices considerably due to this augmentation's taxes.

question about aftercare for eyebrow piercing

I got my eyebrow pierced yesterday and she gave me a paper that literally just says wash 2 to 3 times a day. I’ve obviously googled things, but I want to hear from people that I’ve had eye piercings before. What the best thing to do for after care to make sure it won’t reject because I really love how it looks, and I would be devastated if it rejected also wondering if it looks OK and how long will it take for the purple stuff to come off?

What jewelry should I be using in my bridge?

I got my bridge pierced nearly a year ago now (July 17th of last year) and its not fully healed, obviously. While I know its normal for a bridge to take this long to heal im wondering what I can do to limit bumps and help my piercing heal the fastest it can!

I currently have a stainless steel 14g straight barbell in. What are some better metals i could be putting in my bridge?

Please leave links to some budget friendly barbells that I should look into!

(Also showing off my setup)

Two new piercings!

Just found this community and I'm excited! I went in for a jewelry change on Saturday for my nose stud, came out with upgraded rings and two new piercings! I LOVE the peek-a-boo topaz drop piece especially!

My jewelery is sharp

I got my nose pierced yesterday. The jewelery she put in is so sharp, and she gave me rubber earring backings to put on it? My first facial piercing, but I'm assuming this isn't right. I came to ask if I should change it to something less hazardous despite the piercing being so new, or if I need to tough it out? Whats my next step here?

Vertical nipple piercing

I got traditional horizontal nipple piercings when I was 18. They were the first piercings I'd ever had done ( I didn't even have ear lobes yet). I had to take them out in 2021 and went to get them re-pierced about a year ago. This time, though, I wanted to do something a little different. These are also 11g vs. my previous 14g. The vertical placement definitely restricts what kind of jewelry you can use, but I love the look (especially in combination with my VCH piercing). Does anyone else have vertical nipple piercings? I've never met anyone else who has these.

I got my iron cross nipples

I first got my nipples pierced in 2024 and I’ve finally managed to get the courage to get them pierced again

My piercings have been stuck for 4 years.

Hi everyone! I've had these nose piercings for.. 4 years now, I think? Sorry for the gross picture lol; I thought maybe it would help. I like to think my nose is clean😃.

They never had any issues healing. I never touched them really, barely cleaned them - sometimes with some saltwater spray. I was younger and irresponsible lol. But they were never irritated - maybe some build up here and there that I scratched away.

Before I started my current job three years ago, I tried taking them out to the realisation they are not coming out. I think they're screw-ins(which I rarely see for nose piercings?) and I've tried everything. I was in my nose with pliers. At that point I gave up and my work didn't care, so they never came out. I have never had different piercings!

They're silver. I've realised gold looks much better on me and am changing out my other piercings. I need these silver moons gone!!! How do you take out old screw ins?? I have two on either side of my nose, and neither of them will come out😭 I hope someone has a crazy tip to get these out - or do I just get wire cutters and cut them out. Would that even work?😭😭

EDIT: Woahh, thank you all!! To answer some questions, yes of course I went back to my piercer haha. I think it was my own mistake to pick a "new-age boutique" but it was a referral from a friend. Yes the girls there couldn't get it out and I saw some people had to visit a doctor.

My choice right now is finding a piercer who does have thermals. You guys are amazing! I'm going to try thermals. If that doesnt work, hospital it may be lol. I promise I will NOT cut them out myself haha

Is my industrial too vertical?

Recently got my industrial and I love it but I’m wondering if it looks very vertical. And should I add more piercings once these heal?? Or does it look pretty full?
