Someone tagged the face of my painting with their logo
I (f25) sold a painting to a family friend (m40 something) about 3 years ago. He is an artist, too, and posted a process video of his work on his Instagram story. My painting was hanging in the background, and at first I was happy to see it but I quickly realized that he tagged the bottom right corner with his logo. It is about 4 sq inches big and very clear on the face of my painting :( My jaw actually dropped. I usually don’t sign the face of my work (I’ll sign the back; I think it takes away from the work) but now I don’t think I’ll ever sell a piece again without doing it because of this.
I’m unsure what to do… I replied to the story and said that it was nice to see the piece but I had to ask why he decided to tag it with his logo. This was earlier today and I no response but he’s posted on his story. …
This is really weird and morally wrong af right? I have felt some type of way about it all day and have confided in some people but have gotten mixed reviews. I want to go rip it off his wall and take it back. It actually makes me really sad and uncomfortable because is he trying to claim it as his work? What employed him to do that as a fellow artist? My family has paintings of his hanging in our house, what if I planted my signature on one of those???
I’d love some opinions from other artists bc majority of people in my life aren’t so I’m not sure that they understand why this is a big deal to me… am I over reacting?
