Is convalidation a good option for couples who are already married on paper?

Hello r/AskAPriest,

I have a question I’d like to ask before approaching my SO about it. We have been married for ~6 months (civil) and we do wish to have a proper wedding later on, including a religious ceremony which is important for both of us.

We do not cohabitate (both sides of the border LDR, we are still figuring out the immigration situation), but I wonder if we could ask for convalidation and have a “proper” ceremony (more like a blessing?) later on. I would feel more comfortable doing so. Also, should we go to his parish or mine (different dioceses) or it doesn’t matter?

It’s a first civil union for both os us and we do not have any impediments (that I know of).

Thank you all

Is there an alternative to the RCIA/OCIA for adult confirmation?

Hello,

I’ve been a Catholic since forever, but because of difficult circumstances I had to stop my confirmation preparation when I was young. Although I never stopped attending mass (different parishes, because I moved a lot), I never had the opportunity to finish the process.

Last year I decided to bit the bullet and enrol in the RCIA program, but I had to postpone it once again because of scheduling conflicts.

Is there any alternative besides moving parishes to another one that offers weekend RCIA? I have contacted the new priest and I’m waiting for his response.

Thank you so much for your dedication

What do my cursive styles say about me?

When writing cursive (my preferred handwriting “mode” over print or block), I usually switch back and forth between these two styles (round/bigger vs. straighter/smaller).

My hand is fairly fast, but sometimes it is faster than my brain and I make silly mistakes (example: a lower case L that is not “tall” and looks like a lower case E), as you can see with the abundant use of wite-out!

Although I am right-handed, I end up slanting left for some reason, but it irritates me so much that I am actively practicing to write upright. I don’t know if it helps or not, but now I rotate the paper when writing.

I just discovered this community and it is so interesting to read!

[USA] Does a pending I-130 make it harder to entry as a tourist/visitor?

Hello everyone,

I am Canadian and my husband is American. We live relatively close to the border, so we visit each other fairly often. I go to US ~3 times a month and never stay more than 4 days (most times I just spend the weekend).

We are applying for a CR-1 soon, so I wonder if the pending I-130 will have any negative implications regarding my visits. Would it be considered dual intent since I technically want to immigrate? I am sorry for the confusion or if it has been asked many times, I guess I am looking for someone who’s been in a similar situation.

I have no desire to overstay and we are prepared to wait until the process is finished for me to move. I don’t know if it helps, but I do have a Nexus card. I also have a stable job (same governmental agency since 2022) and I am going to school as well.

Thank you all for this community, it has been very informative to lurk here ☺️☺️
