What is the safest option?
I’m travelling domestically from QLD to VIC for about a week and I’m trying to work out what to do with a prescription tirzepatide pen.
The medication was prescribed to a relative, not me, and they gave it to me to use myself for weight loss. I know using medication prescribed to someone else isn’t necessarily appropriate, and I’m not looking for judgement about that I’m mainly trying to understand the legal/travel side of things. I’ve been using it without any issues and it has really helped me so far.
I have one remaining dose that falls during my trip. I understand medication shouldn’t generally be put in checked baggage, so I’d need to take it in my carry-on if I bring it.
I’m tossing up between taking the pen with me or just leaving it at home, then taking the dose when I return, meaning I’d miss one weekly dose.
My relative has told me I should be fine to take it, but I’m not sure whether I can rely on that advice.
If airport security sees the pen or asks about it and I honestly explain that it’s prescribed to my relative but was given to me to use, what could happen? Am I likely to be questioned, could it be confiscated, or could I personally get into trouble? What’s the safest option here?
