AFM adjustment?

I’m troubleshooting a s4 fc n/a that isn’t idling right, idles high, surges, light switch throttle. I still suspect a vacuum leak but there is no indication of one. No hissing noise, spraying starter fluid all over the intake does nothing. Only modifications are an emissions delete and a racing beat header.

Poking around at the afm sensor today I found this (image below) it looks like the spring has been tightened up a good bit based off the scratch marks. From searching old forums I found a post about tightening the spring to lean out the mixture, especially at idle. I know this car failed an emissions test a while back, so this may have been a cheap fix for that. Would too lean an idle cause these symptoms?

Going to continue searching for vacuum issues, but curious if anyone has input on this.

Just did a full emissions delete on my s4 fc (air pump, cats, egr, solenoid rack). First crank attempt it did a little cough but not much after that, had a fuel leak from the hose connecting the fuel rails so stopped to fix that.

Second and third crank attempt it didn’t try to start at all, noticeable fuel smell from exhaust. By the end the battery was pretty low. I suspect that the first attempt either fouled the plugs or flooded it, and the second and third didn’t help much. Also after having the whole intake apart I definitely don’t have all the throttle adjusting screws in the correct spot, so that might be part of it

Going to charge the battery over night and try again tomorrow after all the fuel has evaporated.

Any suggestions?
