Missing person last scene on September 30th in Santa Monica

She's lived in the Santa Monica area for about a decade and spent many years working various jobs at the Brentwood Country Mart. We think she disappeared on the 30th, but stopped showing up to work on September 24th.

If there's any good to come out of the last week of rain and extreme humidity, fire season has been paused for the foreseeable future.

ERC = Energy Release Component

It estimates how intense a fire could burn based on how much moisture is in the vegetation.

A low ERC (the green) doesn't mean a fire can't start, but any fires that do start will be very mild and easily contained.

You can see the vegetation drying out from the current heatwave, but it appears it will be fairly transitory after Friday.

It will take another storm or two to permanently end this years fire season though.

ECMWF seasonal precipitation probability map showing a classic El Nino signature with a 70-100% chance of coastal California and the Southeast coast having a winter in the top 20% for precipitation.

source

>Aug update from ECMWF predictive ensemble is genuinely extraordinary from extreme #ElNiño perspective. One implication: it is now indicating not only 70-100% odds of above avg winter precip California-wide, but also 70-100% odds of DJF 26-27 being among the top 20% of wettest CA winters (!).

This is for the Aspen Acres fire in Pueblo County, Colorado. At least part of the town of Beulah is currently inside the fire. Hopefully everyone made it out safely.

Severe to potentially historic fire weather conditions over the next several days in the Great Basin. With several major wildfires already burning (including the 70,000 acre Cottonwood fire in Utah), the region might be in for a harrowing few days.

This is pretty close to a worst-case scenario for this time of year: a combination of extreme drought, high winds, dry lightning, and critically low humidity with no overnight recovery. To go from the hell that was this past winter to this in June is brutal. On the bright side, today isn't too bad which should give fire crews at least a little respite.

I wonder if the NWS will utilize the PDS label for this. They typically wait until right before to officially label the situation "particularly dangerous."

More info from the Great Basin Coordination Center.
