Shrimp color theory

Shrimp color theory

I got some colorful shrimp for my tank before I knew about how easily they breed. I didn't realize that crossing color lines will result in wild type babies. Oops!

Original batch: 6 yellow, 2 red, 1 blue

I now have about 20-30 grayish- clear shrimp. Plus 3 black and 2 more yellow. Many are berried.

If I let my little shrimp world just be, how long until the wild type start producing strong colors again? 6 months? 6 years? 60 years?

I'm debating if I will be able to watch evolution play out in real time or if I'm just doomed to have 10000 gray shrimp and should begin curating and culling my herd to be more aesthetically pleasing.

I bought a grab bag of vintage miscellaneous sewing notions: needles, snaps, fasteners for $3 at my local thrift store, as these are items I use frequently. Wasn't expecting it to be exciting.

Buried inside I found this paper needle book with this fascinating note!
