Am I overreacting???
My neighbor is 70 years old and has a female Greenland Husky named Shadow. We live out in the country, and she has always allowed Shadow to roam off-leash wherever and whenever she wants. Our homes are the only two houses around and are only about 100 feet apart.
We have previously spoken with her about keeping Shadow in her own yard. She agreed, but nothing ever changed. It’s been about a year since we last had that conversation because it got us nowhere, and since she’s elderly, we didn’t want to continue pestering her about it.
Tonight, however, we had our standard American Bully and my sister’s two mixed-breed puppies outside with us in our yard, off leash. Ellie does not leave the yard and has excellent recall. My neighbor was at the bar and had left Shadow outside to roam.
Shadow came into our yard, and for a while she was playing with Ellie and the puppies. At one point, Shadow and Ellie started running together. Shadow abruptly stopped directly in front of Ellie and then immediately attacked her. Ellie did not engage; she was trying to run away while Shadow continued trying to attack her. I screamed, and Shadow ran off. Thankfully, Ellie IS okay and doesn’t appear to have any injuries.
When my neighbor arrived home, I told her that what happened was not okay and that Shadow is no longer welcome in our yard. I also told her that if it happens again, I will do whatever is necessary to protect my dog.
Am I overreacting?
