earless wonder

On the way home from our hike this morning. Swipe for evidence that he actually still has ears.

smoke is keeping it short, but it’s still sweet to be out

Mouse is still on the mend but much, much more stable now. He’s annoyed that we can’t do distance but mollified by short frisbee sessions on our favorite flattop.

mouse has decided he’s done recuperating

Reposting since caption was weirdly missing in the original.

Poor guy picked up some terrible GI thing that’s going around. With 4 different meds twice a day, he’s finally sleeping more than 45 minutes at a time and able to eat again. However, during one of his extensive suites of emergency tests, he decided to leap from the xray table. His awesome vet tech caught him in midair, but he still managed to sprain a wrist - so all his usual hikes, town walks, fetch sessions, and playdates are off the table while that recovers. His belly can’t handle chews yet, and we can’t easily do nosework our typical way since he’s on wet food, so there is a *lot* of hiding toys around the house and then attempting to prevent him from zooming around to get them. He’s also getting in lots of sitting-on-the-front-deck-bench practice, which is quite a feat when we’re being harassed by a family of magpies anytime we go out the door!

In all these pictures, he’s asking, “Are you freaking stupid? Why won’t you play/hike with me?”

my best bud

He’s almost 15 months and certainly gets into teenage shenanigans sometimes, but not on trail and not when frisbee is involved. We’re coming up on a year together and having such a lovely spring outside!

hiking with dogs (in your arms)

Mouse *loves* romping around in the creek (especially playing his favorite solo game of “pull every stick/branch out of the water and break it up on the bank”) but he’s not so sure about being in depths where his feet leave the ground. Luckily he had no issues being ported!

We finally connected a big loop, both ends of which we’ve been working for some time. There’s a decent amount of scrambling that has to be done to make it happen, but he’s a good rock hound.

Edit: typo.
