Tickets required to be inside Union Station?

Security is amped up at LA Union Station right now for the World Cup. Apparently private security guards are now performing random, mandatory fare inspections across the station and kicking out those without tickets.

This is new to me - the only ticket inspections I knew of were for the historical wooden seats in the atrium. But apparently, now security guards are requiring tickets simply to exist at Union Station.

Are these changes permanent or are they only for the World Cup? I figured security changes would be to make things more pleasant for visitors, but it was pretty unpleasant being barked at by contracted security guards. I can't imagine this is a great way to welcome visitors to our region.
