Tatara Masamune Day 5 - SOTD 7/5

Tatara Masamune Day 5 - SOTD 7/5

SOTD: 07/05/2026

Razor: Tatara Masamune
Blade: Tatara Stainless, 1st use
Brush: Trotter Handcrafts Lavender Sno
Bowl: Captain’s Choice Polished Copper Bowl
Preshave: Hot Shower
Soap: Taylor’s of Old Bond Street Eton College Cream
Aftershave: Pinaud Bay Rum Aftershave
Balm: Dollar Shave Club Post Shave Cream Balm
Fragrance: Guy Laroche Drakkar Bleu Eau de Parfum

I have to say I’m reasonably impressed with Tatara’s in house blade, which is fitting for a company whose razors are all named after cutting weapons. I’d put it pretty similarly to the Personna Blue, at least on first use.

Tub kill continues. Eton isn’t going to last the week. I’ll be sad to see it go, but have to make room for new stock next year. But if I make enough room, there will be a spot for a TOBS in there.

Tatara Masamune Trial Day 4 - SOTD 7/4

SOTD: 07/04/2026

Razor: Tatara Masamune
Blade: Personna Platinum, 2nd use
Brush: Yaqi Lucky Dice R2002-S
Bowl: Captain’s Choice Polished Copper Bowl
Preshave: Hot Shower
Soap: Catie’s Bubbles A Midnight Dreary Croap
Aftershave: Pinaud Bay Rum Aftershave
Fragrance: Ralph Lauren Polo Green Eau de Toilette

My favorite shave with the Masamune yet. I’ll be swapping out for their bespoke blades tomorrow, but for now I think Personna is the way to go if you end up with one.

Love the scent of Midnight Dreary, which was included with the Masamune pass around. I’ll definitely have this on my list to pick up next year.

SOTD: Masamune Test Run

SOTD: 07/01/2026

Razor: Tatara Masamune
Blade: Feather New Hi-Stainless, 1st use
Brush: Yaqi Lucky Dice R2002-S
Bowl: Captain’s Choice Polished Copper Bowl
Preshave: Hot Shower
Soap: Taylor’s of Old Bond Street Eton College Cream
Aftershave: Pinaud Whiskey Woods Aftershave
Balm: Dollar Shave Club Post Shave Cream Balm
Fragrance: Maison Alhambra Sceptre Malachite Eau de Parfum

First time using the Tatara (using it as part of a pass around). Genuinely one of the least aggressive razors I’ve ever used. Even with a Feather it never felt like there was an aggressive blade against my skin. Very well constructed razor.

Some irritation on the neck. Could be technique, we will have to see.

TOBS Eton is starting to show the ring of death. If I keep it up, I’ll have a tub kill in July.

The return of the orange creamsicle! Slava Ukraini.

Members of the sub will remember a stretch last year where I posted participating in a pass around for this razor, and how I said I would genuinely miss it after I sent it along.

Fortunately for me, the owner of the razor was looking to pass it along at the end of the time, and I jumped on the opportunity to buy it. But then Wetshaving was going Micromatic May, and I’m a sucker for a theme, so this is the first time I’m back using it.

Thrilled it’s part of my stable forever!
