Google Wallet, the MBTA, and current payment methods

I have a WageWorks (HealthEquity) commuter card. I've been refilling a Charlie Card for a few years with it. I also have an Android phone, and a Samsung SmartWatch. Today I realized I don't need the Charlie Card, since I can now just pay directly on the new pay terminals.

Which leads me to my question.

Are we at the point where we can do a Transit Payment option on Google Wallet to pay for a subway ride? IE tap my phone (or watch) to the pay terminal, and it will NOT use my default card, but use the WageWorks card?

I have hope due to this thread

Help me build a solution for my church

I've volunteered to redo the network that my church uses.

It's used for 4 things right now

  • Live Stream via an (older) iPhone (Via wireless)
  • 2 Office Computers via wireless cards
  • We offer guest access (Not 100% certain how this is currently working, pretty sure it's just the same SSID everything else is using). Typically used by vendors during craft fairs in our function hall.
  • Connection to a NVR.

We are upgrading the service to 300 Mbps service (from 50) from FiOS.

I'm looking for suggestions on equipment from Omada.

It's a small church, and I'm trying to be budget conscious. I'm also not expecting do anything fancy. Church SSID, Guess SSID. Pretty much that's it. No VPN's, no guest portal, etc.

My thoughts were to use the ER707-m2 ($89) and 2 or 3 (Still need to do coverage assessment) BE5000's. I also have a newer Aruba 2930F PoE+ switch I was going to donate. Since our needs were so basic, I was planning on doing Cloud Managed (no local controller).

I know the Fusions are coming (tomorrow) for around $139 for the 5 port version, and like $260 for the PoE version, but I'm not convinced I need the newer box for such a small deployment.

Here's where things get complicated. Currently all the existing equipment is installed in the attic (The attic runs upwards of 110-120F during the summer here). To combat this, we are going to relocate the equipment (The ER707-M2, the HP Switch, the NVR and one of the BE5000's) to one of the larger storage closet up near the ceiling (it has a 12 foot ceiling). Initial thought was to mount a piece of painted plywood, and then wall mount everything to the plywood.

Looking over things, I'm thinking I might swap the HP switch out for a SG2008P (It's fanless and wall mountable)

Help me select camera's

I'm replacing a 15 year old camera system in my church.

Help me pick camera's.

I need 4 camera's. 3 of them are mounted so they cover all the entrance doors. Each camera is about 10-15 feet from the door. One is mounted up high (about 20 feet) shooting towards a door about 30 feet away. This location is NOT important, it was more the existing system came with 4 camera's so they just used it to cover a broad area.

I'm going to use PoE (or PoE+, switch does both)

Looking at the website, there is the CX820, the RLC-1224A, the RLC 1240A, and the RLC-820A.

I'm reading that 8MP might be a better for low light.

Recommendations please?

Help me plan out a revamp for a small church

I got asked to look at the Surveillance Camera system our church uses. It's a Lorex system from 2014, and while it served well, it was "installed" in the attic, and the heat finally killed it after 12 years. Installed is a relative term. The recorder was just sitting on the floorboard, and the 4 camera's were just mounted to walls with the wire running into the attic via a closets or covered with raceway. I can't find a system that is compatible with the existing camera's.

Also in the attic was the two TP-Link and Netgear routers that were being used as Access Points. No idea of the vintage, I couldn't reach them without crawling across some insulation. Let's assume similar vintage. Some complaints that the WIFI has speed issues, specifically with the livestream.

Currently we are streaming on Facebook with an iPhone over the previously mentioned WIFI. It works well for what it is. It's a tripod in the rear pew, with a sign in front of it that says please don't sit here. We've run a audio cord from the amplifier and use a lighting adapter to take the sound in. It's 50 feet from the back wall of the the Sanctuary to the back wall of the alter. So probably 30 feet from camera to subject.

Budget is as small as we can make it.

Goal:

  • Replace Surveillance system
  • Replace Wireless Network
  • Be easy enough that I would not be the only person who understands this.

Stretch goal

  • Replace iPhone with a permanent camera.

I'd like suggestions on how people would approach this?

My thoughts were go with Ubiquiti. Easy to use, no ongoing licensing, and if I step away it's not a "home built" system that someone has to figure out.

Probably a Cloud Gateway Max, two U7 Lights for the internet / WIFI, and then couple with 4 camera's. Probably G5's of some kind (turret, bullet, dome depending on mounting) (I have PoE switches onhand)

If we got a G6 pro, and mounted it in the Sanctuary, potentially it could replace the current iPhone we currently use, and we could use OBS to stream the video (and take sound from the amplifier the same way the iPhone is doing it now). It would only be 40 feet.

Pricing this all out, I'm up over $1300, and I'd still need to source a laptop / desktop for OBS, plus cabling for all the new equipment.

I'm concerned that it's too much. Dropping the stretch goal only knocks the price down to $1100. I can get an equivalent to the Lorex system for $279, so that's my low price point.

So how would you approach this problem?

New(ish) TSB for wind noise

High Pitch Whistling Noise From Outer Rear View Mirror

https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2026/MC-11031165-0001.pdf

March 2026

Some 2022 – 2025 model year Tundra and Tundra Hybrid, and 2023 – 2025 model year Sequoia Hybrid vehicles may exhibit a high pitch whistling noise coming from one or both outer rear-view mirrors while driving 65 – 85 mph (105 – 137 km/h).

The fix looks to be a foam addition inside the mirror, and a new outer shell.

Covered under warranty, if your warranty is still active.
