Leamington station doors mystery

A plea for folks who care about Leamington's unique heritage (which seems to be under constant ongoing threat) to comment on the Listed Building consent app. Details below from the Leamington Society.

THE MYSTERY OF LEAMINGTON STATION'S MISSING GWR DOORS

Leamington Spa Station is one of Warwickshire's finest Art Deco railway buildings and is Grade II listed.

Yet several original oak doors have disappeared and been replaced with modern plain brown doors. (See Leamington Society objection for more images]

The original doors can still be seen in historic photos and videos of the station. But despite enquiries, Environmental Information Requests, and even an Information Commissioner's Office ruling requiring information to be released, there is still no explanation of:

  • Why the original doors were removed
  • What happened to them
  • Whether they were repaired, stored or discarded
  • Whether they can still be recovered

The current listed building planning application does propose replacement "heritage-style" doors. However, the original doors have already been removed and the application does not provide sufficient evidence to show that the proposed replacements would accurately replicate the original Great Western Railway doors in their materials, craftsmanship, fittings and appearance.

In short, the question is not simply whether new doors should be installed, but whether the loss of original historic fabric has been properly justified and whether the proposed replacements genuinely preserve the character of this Grade II listed station.

The Leamington Society has submitted a detailed objection to the current Listed Building Consent application because we believe important questions remain unanswered.

Compare the photos and judge for yourself.

This isn't about stopping improvements to the station. We recognise and appreciate the investment Chiltern Railways has made in Leamington Spa over many years, including award-winning restoration projects and support for station improvements.

It is precisely because Leamington Station is such a well-loved and important heritage asset that we believe the loss of original historic fabric deserves proper explanation.

The application to install "heritage-style" doors (and not to reinstate the original doors) is expected to be decided very shortly (next week).

If you care about Leamington's railway heritage, please take a look and submit your own comments on what you think should be happening, while there is still time.

App updated CX810 firmware to v3.1.0.6126_2603251288

One of my CX810s was prompted to update firmware yesterday, but none of the others so far. It's now on v3.1.0.6126_2603251288 (was v3.1.0.5129_2510222154).

It's not listed on https://reolink.com/download-center/
Nor on https://github.com/AT0myks/reolink-fw-archive

Gemini says it includes the below - but presumably the AI part is unavailable using sd-card. Also the "white-out" surrounding lighting sources at night doesn't seem to have improved.

1. AI Natural Language Search Support

The headline feature for the 2026 firmware cycle is the backend support for Natural Language Search. This allows you to search your playback using specific text queries in the Reolink App (v4.60+), such as "person in a red shirt" or "dog on the lawn," instead of scrolling through every motion event.

2. Enhanced Night Vision "Binning" Logic

As a CX-series (ColorX) camera, the CX810 relies on a large F1.0 aperture and specialized sensors. This update refines the Binning Mode—a feature that combines pixels in extremely low light to increase brightness and reduce noise. The 6126 build improves the transition between "Auto" and "Full Color" to prevent the "twilight blur" some users reported in previous versions.

3. AI Smart Summary

This firmware enables the AI Summary feature. When you check your notifications, the app can now provide a text-based summary of the day's activity (e.g., "3 deliveries detected between 2 PM and 4 PM") rather than just sending individual pings.

4. Encoding Flexibility (H.264/H.265)

Following feedback from users of third-party platforms (like Synology or Home Assistant), this update allows you to manually toggle between H.264 and H.265 for the "Clear" stream. Previously, the CX810 often defaulted to H.265, which caused compatibility issues for some local recording setups.

5. Security & Bug Fixes

  • Video Deletion: You can now delete specific clips directly from the SD card via the app's playback screen (the "trash can" icon).
  • Rich Notifications: Improvements to the speed and reliability of thumbnail previews in push notifications.
  • Perimeter Protection: Reduced false positives for the "Line Crossing" and "Intrusion" alerts, specifically for smaller animals like cats or birds.
