His Banner Over Me Is Love (Song of Songs 2:4)
My small cousin had a choir concert and they sang a song that I hadn't heard in like 30 years. I decided to look up what scripture talked about this because the phrase seemed too specific to just make up.
I found Song of Songs 2:4, but the next couple of verses really stuck out to me, and I'm wondering if my exegesis holds water:
^(4) He brought me to the ^([)^(a)^(])banqueting house,
And his banner over me was love.
- Prefigurement of the marriage supper of the Lamb (Eucharist), the banner possibly being baptismal waters, burial clothes, maybe even the INBI sign on the cross?
^(5) Sustain me with cakes of raisins,
- Prefigurement of the Eucharist: bread and grapes
Refresh me with apples,
For I am lovesick.
- Restoring through Christ what was once lost through Adam & Eve
I have no idea if this is supported by the Fathers anywhere. I looked on Catena but couldn't really find anything specific, so I'm just curious if anyone has more info on this.
