Help!! Just moved in-Mice in rental

My partner and I are first time renters. We moved 2 hours away from family to a rental house, and as we were settling in we noticed mice droppings and traps in all of the kitchen cabinets. It was late at night at this time, so we sent an email to the landlord to figure out what we can do. But we are not comfortable living here as of now and don’t know what to do. As I said this is our first time renting a house. There’s so many droppings in the cabinets where you put food, it’s disgusting. I feel like I’m overreacting, but am I though?? What would you do? Im waiting on a response from the landlord, and will call them tomorrow. I’d hate to start over again, but I don’t feel comfortable in this house and deserve better for my first home. But please help.

Edit / update : we moved out today , which sucked after moving everything through states. We also just feel like we are back at stage 1 of finding a house ( anybody in the tri state area renting or selling a house please help we don’t know where to start!! )
But landlord refused professional treatment and said he will “send his guy” out and was very calm about it, too calm honestly. The house definitely should not of been rented out in the first place.
