She said she was ready for anything then I saw her at the bar with the guy from her work
27M. Been seeing this girl 26F since May. Not official. Her call. We text every day. She stays over two or three nights a week. We cook, we go on hikes, her friends know my name. In June I asked what we were. She said she liked me a lot but wasn’t ready to put a label on it, and she didn’t want to hurt me by pretending she was sure. I said fine. I meant it at the time.
Last night I went out with two coworkers. She’s there. Corner booth, same jacket she left at my place. Guy from her office has his arm on the back of the seat. Not kissing. Not nothing either. She saw me. We did the little wave. I left after one beer.
Got home and she texted “you good?” then “that wasn’t what it looked like, he’s just a friend from work, we’ve been talking about a project.” I didn’t answer. This morning she sent a photo of the coffee I make her and said she missed waking up here.
I don’t know if I’m the boyfriend she’s not ready to admit or the weeknight option while she figures out the other guy. Both feel possible. Asking her straight feels like I’m about to get the speech again.
Dinner is tattoo chef killer bee frozen pizza with extra bullshit I put on top of it.
