Did I do the damage or expose some damage?

my '74 super beetle (1776 w/dual Kadrons) is running rough. A few weeks ago, I left it out in the rain all day (wasn't supposed to rain) and when I started it that evening to drive 3 miles to dinner, it would start "chopping" as soon as rpms went over 3k.

After an hour in the rain at dinner, the drive home was a nightmare.

Add electric shorting to the mix, door buzzers the whole way... I felt terrible for it. Since then, I have given it fuel treatment and some high octane and it is running better, but starts smooth and gets choppy above 3k as it warms up.

I had been thinking I fouled up the fuel or got water in the air filters, but now I wonder if the water exposed some electrical stuff and I should be focusing on timing and distributor.

Edit: I may have found it. One of the female leads going to the Coil was loose enough that only gravity was holding it on. After tightening, the engine isn't skipping at high revs AND the radio isn't cutting out anymore! I'll update after a test drive.

Edit 2: It was the loose coil negative wiring. I think the water just exacerbated the loose connection. Leaving this post for posterity.
