Unenrolling in benefits

Has anyone unenrolled in healthcare coverage mid cycle? I'm just wondering because I'm a new hire who forgot to opt out of enrolling (I got one email that looked like spam and it got lost in all of the other new hire emails) and I'm still covered under my parents. But I see that there needs to be some life changing event in the last 30 days to unenroll mid cycle. There is an option of saying I gained coverage in the last 30 days but I've had it forever. They are also saying that they might follow up and ask for proof, do they ever ask for proof? Just wondering because they say in the fine print that not providing proof or providing false information is grounds for termination or legal action.

I just don't want to pay like 70 bucks per pay check till January.
