First Time Dolomites in August 2027
Hi everyone.
I’m planning my first trip to the Dolomites with family and I’d love to hear your advice. (Yes, I know its more than a year from now, but I want to get the best prices by booking accomodation early)
I’ve done quite a bit of research, but I’m struggling to figure out how many days to stay there. We would drive from Budapest and make an overnight stop in Trieste. Next day we would head to the Dolomites (probably Cortina area). Last night Tarvisio or Tolmezzo area would be nice so that we don’t have to drive 8+ hours back to Budapest. Besides these (roughly 2,5) travel days, how many days would you recommend for a first visit?
About hiking: we want to do 2-3 easy-moderate hikes.
I have a few other questions:
What places are worth the hype and which are overrated?
Are there any hidden-gems that first-time visitors skip or miss?
Any tips for avoiding crowds or expensive mistakes?
Are there any cheaper alternatives for bases like Cortina and Ortisei?
Thanks in advance!
