My 14 wk old puppy has no interest in snuggling. Will that change?
My ALD puppy has no interest in snuggling up to us for a nap. We got him at 8 weeks, and he has always only slept/napped alone. We crate him at night, and most of the time for his naps too because if we don’t, he doesn’t nap and he just becomes an overstimulated toddler overdue for a nap. All that being said, when he’s chewing on toys, he loooves flopping himself onto me or leaning against me. He is more than comfortable putting his butt right in my face and plopping down on top of me (I’m on the floor or laying down a lot due to chronic illness) but even when he does that, he gets up and either flops onto a different area of me or moves off within ~20 seconds. Recently, he’s even leaned against the back of my legs while I was in the kitchen, but it didn’t work so well because I kept moving around lol. He follows me around from room to room, and is definitely connected to me. But cuddling up to me for a nap? Sleepy snuggles? Forget it. My other pup I got 8 years ago was a little snuggle bug and was always curling up to me. But this one, he just has no interest in snuggles unless he’s chomping on a toy, and even then he doesn’t stay for long. I got him to train him to become a service animal, and told the breeder I wanted the puppy of the litter most likely to become a therapy/service animal, and she assured me he’s a cuddle bug and always wants to be in peoples laps, but I just haven’t found that to be true. I’m feeling rather disappointed and let down that he has no interest in snuggles, like I got the short end of the stick. I wanted a dog who would be a comfort and a companion, but instead I got a puppy who while he does always want to be around or maybe sometimes slightly touching but overall prefers his personal space and isn’t interested in cuddles lasting more than 30 seconds. Will this change or do I already have a failed service dog? Also—we love him regardless and have zero plans of returning him. It just sucks that we paid so much money and did so much research to find a dog to help me with my health and it’s looking like it’s already a failure.
