Training option?

Hi all!

We’re meeting and picking out our first dog this weekend and so excited! We have an opportunity that I’m torn about and would love folks input.

We’re a busy house - 2 year old and 6 year old (who is delayed and autistic). It’s going to be HARD I know but we’ve got a personal dog trainer who works a lot with autism and therapy dogs who will be helping and I think it’s going to be long-term good for our kids.

That said, my folks (who are great with dogs and have trained lots) offered to take said pup from 8weeks to like 16 or so weeks for us and help through some of the most intensive training times. They’re retired so objectively the dog would get more support. They live 4 hours away though so I won’t be able to see the pup more than like once or twice during that time!

My main debate is this: I recognize our house is loud and chaotic and this dog will need to almost
Be a therapy level dog - I reallllly don’t want this pup to be like, miserable in our house so I thought well a puppy will just get desensitized to it? But maybe coming more trained is better? Is it too late to “get used” to our house if it comes later?

Very very tempted by the offer to help, I just want to do right by the dog and my kids

Thanks all!!

How often do you bathe your Australian Labradoodle?

Hi everyone! I have an 8.5-week-old mini Australian Labradoodle puppy named Ozzie 🐶🩵
I’m a first-time dog owner, so I’m still figuring out his grooming routine. I gave him a bath last Monday and it’s only been about a week, but he’s already starting to smell a bit 😂 He also loves going outside, sniffing everything and getting his paws and face dirty.
How often do you bathe your Labradoodles? Is once a week too often for their skin/coat? Do you usually wait 3–4 weeks and just clean their paws and face in between?
Would love to hear what works for you!

Somebody is being SASSY

She's mad cause she couldn't get in my lap and that my wife was sitting within one foot of me on the couch.

OMG THE AUDACITY.... Lol 😂

In ground fencing vs GPS

We have always had success with an invisible fence with our previous dogs (Bearded collies). We now have a 4 month old ALD and was wondering if we should get our current system serviced/upgraded or switch to a GPS system. Any thoughts?

Not eating!

I’m new to this thread so I’m sorry if this isn’t the right forum. Looking for advice on my Australian Labradoodle, Poppy, (3 y/o). She has been extremely lethargic and not eating over the past 2 days. I took her to the vet and they gave her fluids, appetite stimulant, and did some blood work. No major concerns. But she’s just not acting right and I have a gut feeling something is off.

No pain in her belly from palpation.

Update: her belly is really really firm

What food does your Australian Labradoodle puppy actually enjoy?

Hi! I have an 8-week-old Mini Australian Labradoodle named Ozzie 🐶
He came home from the breeder eating Royal Canin Mini Starter Mother & Babydog, but he really doesn’t seem interested in it. He’ll eat a few pieces and walk away, but he’s VERY interested in treats 😂 He’s otherwise happy, active, drinking normally and doing great with pee/poop.
Since he’s now old enough to transition to puppy food, I’m wondering what other Australian Labradoodle owners recommend.
What did you feed your puppy at this age? Kibble, fresh food, or a combination? And did you have a picky puppy too?
I’d especially love recommendations for brands available in Europe/Netherlands. Thanks! 🩵🐾

Puppy is hot-natured

Puppy, Australian Labradoodle, is now 12 weeks old. We got her at 8 weeks, and the first few nights in the crate were unbearable. Of course we took her out, calmed her, ended up sleeping on the floor with her (we don't do the dogs in our bed thing). She wasn't afraid of the crate, would eat and play in the crate but when you locked the door, she melted down. We set up a corral around the crate, opened the door and she was fine sleeping on the floor next to the open crate, within the corral. We added a floor fan, but no change. Then we noticed how often she plopped down on AC registers. AH-HA, she is hot natured. So we pulled the bedding out of the crate, limited it to 1 medium plush toy, and she slept like a puppy should. By 11 weeks she was sleeping 7 hrs/night in the closed crate. We've since talked to other ALD owners and it seems to be a trait in some of these dogs. Although we read everything we could get our hands on, there was no mention puppies being hot natured. We thought giving her a fluffy bed was the sweet thing to do, but it just caused her to overheat. Gotta listen to the doggo!

DNA Test

Has anybody done a DNA test on your Australian Labradoodle? I just sent mine in. I am curious if anyone else has done this and what they found.
