Trying to authenticate an old Japanese promo card
(pic is just from PriceCharting and not a photo of my actual card but this is the one I have)
This PC promo card is one of the few Japanese cards in my collection, and looking at it out of the binder for the first time in years, I noticed the back was very glossy and I’m doubting its authenticity. From what I’ve been able to find with a quick google, none of the easy “tells” for fake English cards apply to the Japanese ones and some promo cards can be quite glossy or otherwise look different from the mainline cards anyway. I hope to find an expert locally who can take a look at the card in person some time but for now, can anyone here confirm what kind of finish I could expect on a card like this? Would a glossy back be a red flag?
As some background for the card itself: I’ve had it since I was a kid and got it from a school friend who could have plausibly obtained it from a Japanese Pokemon Centre around the time of the promotion. At the same time, he was also a kid handing out cards left and right for free, so admittedly not the most trustworthy source for authentic products 😂
