Morin khuur

I’m currently working on this Morin-Khuur, it’s a Mongolian string instrument.

The name translates into horse head fiddle.

It’s mainly played in Eastern Asia on the stepped by Altai and Turkish tribes.

It symbolizes their celebration of the horse culture.

Two strings are bowed on this fret less instrument that can create about 2. 1/2 octaves and is often used to accompany throat singers.

Tagl harpa

I build this Tagl harpa a while ago.

It’s a Nordic bowed lyre type also known as jouhikko in Finland and Estonia.

Tagl means horse tail in Norse which is what the strings are made from.

I build a case for it as well.

Scandinavian workbench build

I’m attempting to build a Scandinavian workbench like the one made famous by Tage Frid.

Leg assembly with tusked thru mortise and tenon joints.

I flattened the top and underside of the bench surface with a hand jointing plane made in 1840 and a Ohio tool works transitional coffin smoother.

I’m currently working on the shoulder vise which has a dovetail joint and a support block made out of Purple Heart.

I’ve also started on one of the end blocks that make out the L shaped tail vise.

Both of these will feature a double dove tail joint.
