Spikes Adventure

Spike gave me a freaking heart attack today and then immediately followed it up with the most adorable thing he's ever done.

I got out of the shower and noticed his enclosure door was WIDE open.

Normally I'm fine with him being out as long as I'm supervising, but this time I had no idea how long he'd been loose. My first thought was, "Oh no, where is he? What if he ate something he shouldn't?"

I started searching the apartment and eventually found him sitting quietly in the corner of the bathroom.

Which means this little menace must have escaped while I was in the shower and then came looking for me.

When I first approached him, he puffed up and acted all tough like, "Don't pick me up!" But the second I scooped him up he completely relaxed and was basically like, "Oh, it's you. That's fine."

The funny thing is this isn't entirely out of character for him. On days when my depression is bad and I try to crawl back into bed, he'll scratch at the glass and keep trying to get my attention. If I let him out, he doesn't go exploring. He just wants to be near my bed.

So now I'm wondering if today's great escape wasn't a jailbreak at all. Maybe he heard me disappear into the mysterious Water Chamber and decided he needed to investigate.

Either way, he's back in his enclosure, the door is definitely locked this time, and my friend has officially dubbed him "Super Spike."

Update to my problem and it all worked out for the best

So original post https://www.reddit.com/r/SantaMuerte/s/DVSUlAMEWS

After my first helper got scared off because of my altar, I was eventually paired with someone new. Honestly, we clicked almost immediately. Over time I've come to think of her as a friend, not just someone assigned to help me.

Looking back, I probably shouldn't have worried so much that things wouldn't work out.

The wildest part is that our relationship hasn't been one-sided at all. She helps me, but I've ended up helping her too.

My dad has been fixing up his old house because he's planning to move later this year and rent it out. Around the same time, my helper had been searching for a place to rent for over a year and was getting close to giving up.

Somehow, it turns out my dad's house checks pretty much every box on her list. What started as a random conversation turned into them talking seriously about her renting it. At this point, it's basically a done deal.

I know some people don't believe in things happening for a reason, but this whole situation feels like one of those moments where everything lined up exactly the way it was supposed to. Sometimes life has a funny way of putting the right people in the right place at the right time.

Thanks for all of your support and suggestions! It seems I have no reason to hide my altar but I will probably be getting a bigger table for it.
