My girlfriend grew some beautiful beans

But we can't recall the variety on the right. Maybe cannelini? We know for sure the other two are orca and tiger eye.

My fava beans 🫘

If we're showing beans we grew, I'd like to share my favas! Reasons why I love them:

1.They need zero water from me (grow entirely during our wet season in PNW)

2.They improve the soil where they grow (nitrogen fixer)

  1. They have 3 harvests (young bean, dried bean, and growing tips)

  2. They are delicious! They almost have a potato texture when cooked from dry.

Primarily I've been eating them in Egyptian hummus and falafel recipes, but want to try ful medames. Any other fava lovers out there? They are the quintessential climate resistant staple crop IMO.

Brine Fermented Spring Onions & Green Garlic

Garlic patch got white rot, had to pull the lot, experimenting with ways to preserve it. This is my favourite so far. Super versatile.

Financial tracking at the end of my first month of hiatus was enlightening

Hello! Some of you may have seen my previous posts/comments - I (35w) was CoastFIRE for 6 years up until a month ago. I quit my job suddenly when we got a new, truly awful supervisor (love being FI enough to do so). I decided to take a 4 month hiatus to focus on other projects. I was also interested to see how not working would effect my spending. I can now see that I can quite easily reduce my monthly spending by a third! This really helps me set my LeanFIRE goal number. It's a unexpected benefit of the hiatus.

Mainly my cost savings have been in transportation (Less trips in the truck, more time to walk/cycle/bus where I need to go) and food (more time to cook from scratch). A good example is that I now cycle to a local grocery store on Sundays (the whole store is 10% off that day), and will forgo the 'treat' box of fancy $10 cookies and instead bake them at home from ingredients that cost less than half that. I have definitely made a few small sacrifices to maintain my budget but all in all I'm quite happy with how it's going. It means I can potentially shrink my number further, and ironically, may mean I get to retire even earlier than if I hadn't taken a break from work and experimented with a reduced budget!
