After they are gone?

Hi everyone,
This is my first post here, though I’ve been actively (and gratefully) lurking for around 4 years.

In 2022, my soul cat Freya was diagnosed with Stage 3 kidney disease.

One night I was searching for ways I could make her more comfortable and Google pointed me to this group… and boy oh boy has it been a lifeline ever since.

Freya passed away a few weeks ago, just shy of her 18th birthday.

When she was first diagnosed, we were told we might have weeks, months, or maybe a couple of years. Because of good veterinary care, a lot of persistence, and everything I learned from communities like this one, we were incredibly lucky to have four more beautiful years together.

I just wanted to say thank you. Even though none of you knew Freya, you all helped her (and me) more than you’ll probably ever know.

My main reason for posting now, is because I have a few kidney-care supplies I’d love to pass along to someone with a kidney cat, I’m thinking it will help the grief process for me to know I’m paying it forward.

I have:

Aventi Kidney Complete (opened)
About half a bag of subcutaneous fluids
Needles
My homemade EZ-IV harness
Some highly palatable senior/kidney-friendly treats
Her favorite cans of wet food
Heated sleeping mat (no cover as she ended up peeing on everything in the end)
A few other odds and ends

What would you recommend as the best way to donate these? Is there a rescue or organization that accepts opened supplies, or is it okay to pass them directly to another kidney cat family?

And if anyone happens to be in the Calgary, Alberta area, please feel free to send me a message. I’d be happy to pass everything along if it might help another kidney cat.

Thank you all again for everything you’ve unknowingly done for Freya and for me. I hope these supplies can help another family get a little more precious time together.
❤️
