How do we tell her?

Hello all. My daughter will be receiving a WCR brace over the summer to be worn at night. TBD on the number of hours, but we’re trying to minimize daytime wear to encourage as many hours as possible. We have been in the wait and see stage since she was 4 years old. Her curve is now 30°. My questions are mainly directed at those of you who were braced young, or caregivers who braved their pre-pubescent children.

Caregivers: How did you tell them about what’s coming without the process sounding scary?

As a kid, what would you have wanted to hear from your parents about the importance of wearing the brace?

Besides choosing a cool design, would could we do to offer her some more choice in the process?

How can we offer good mental health support at home?

Did you personally know anyone else with a brace? Would it have helped to talk to someone else who also wore/wears one?

Thank you all for any feedback you can give.
