Need advice on continuing with mma gym or learning fundmentals first
Hello guy! I recently joined the top MMA gym in my country with zero combat sports experience. I've been doing beginner MMA and grappling for a week.
However, instead of building my fundamentals (stance, throwing a jab, basic mechanics), my instructors put me straight into sparring after just 30 minutes of drilling a single combination like a jab-calf kick.
Same thing in the grappling classes was immediately put into sparring after drilling guillotine escapes [i dont even know how to do a proper guillotine just saw it in the ufc] and here's a video of firas zahabi : https://youtu.be/-BUHHj8EJc4?si=NPeF10-8GHYEtffp mentioning his way of tutoring white belts:[tldr : basically drill basic moves and get understading of guard, basic passing and ashi garami then move to sparring otherwise ur just cranking and squeezing with no technique and getting bruised up for no reason].
Given my situation, would you guys recommend I pause MMA to train fundamentals at a smaller kickboxing gym and practice BJJ basics with my younger brother for a few months then later on come back to this gym , or should I stay at this MMA gym? Thanks for your advice!
