Hello everyone! I recently bought a house and have been working through different upgrades and renovations. Ceiling fans seemed easy enough until I started getting into the process the first one installed just fine but it hums a bit. Not a major issue but I can come back to that.

I ran into bigger issues with ceiling fans 2 and 3. I noticed they were very old and had a support bar installed on them where the junction boxes currently is, but on the finished side of the ceiling. I’ve never seen that and imagine it was an older way of doing things. I had to pause as I don’t think the junction boxes are rated for ceiling fans, which I think lead to the drywall around the fan cracking.

I bought the expanding junction boxes that expand and dig into the beams but as I took the old junction box out, I saw it was attached right on the beam in the center of the room. Had to pivot and bought a junction box that connects to this beam but as I was screwing it in, I hear the beam splinter.

Now here I am, any suggestions?
