Question about a flush mount

I have a flush mount fan. I need to attach a down rod. Is that possible? I know there are convertible fans available, but has anyone tried this or have advice? It doesn't have to be a down rod specifically, I just need it to hang about 8 inches. The problem is it's a cathedral ceiling with a 2/12 pitch (so about 9.5° angle), and the fan has to be hung level.

Ceiling Fan w/ Lights Suggestions

We are in the process of purchasing a new home and would like to replace the light in the ceiling with a well lit ceiling fan. Would love suggestions on a fan that would complement this room while also providing enough light. Thanks!

Ceiling fan chain switch replacement

Hi all,

I had an old chain switch which got broken and I wanted to replace it with new one. Opened the fan, removed the old switch. However, forgot to take the picture of wire connection. Can someone advice which wire goes where?added a picture of capacitor.

Also, there will be a reverse fan switch. Which I removed by mistake . Can someone suggest which switch I can buy for that? And wire connections for that too?

Thank you 🙏

I found a quiet, modern ceiling fan with a remote that doesn't suck (Multiple sizes/colors available)

(Disclaimer: I’m including an affiliate link at the bottom of this post. If you end up grabbing one, it helps me out at no extra cost to you, but I’m posting this because this fan rules.)

If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably spent way too much time looking for a ceiling fan that actually looks good, comes with a reliable remote, and doesn't sound like a helicopter taking off.

After returning two different big-box store fans, I finally tried out this one I found on Amazon, and I honestly love it. I’ve had it running almost non-stop for a few months now, and here is a breakdown of why it's a solid choice if you're currently fan-hunting.

The Specs & Options

One of the hardest parts of buying a fan online is finding the right size and aesthetic for your room. This model solves that by offering a ton of variations on the same listing:

  • Sizes: It comes in multiple blade spans (usually ranging from 42-inch up to 80-inch), so you can get a smaller one for a home office or a massive one for a vaulted living room.
  • Colors/Finishes: You can choose between Matte Black, Crisp White, Brushed Nickel, and a natural wood-grain finish.

Why I Actually Recommend It

1. The DC Motor is Dead Silent

Traditional AC motor fans always have that underlying mechanical "hum." This fan uses a Brushless DC motor. It is incredibly energy-efficient and completely silent. The only thing you hear is the sound of the air moving, even on the highest speed.

2. A Remote That Makes Sense

The remote isn't an afterthought. It controls everything:

  • 6 Speed Settings: Way better than the standard low/medium/high.
  • Reversible Airflow: You can switch the blade direction directly from the remote for winter/summer modes (no more climbing a ladder to flip a tiny physical switch on the motor housing).
  • Timers & Sleep Modes: Great for setting it to turn off automatically after a few hours at night.

3. The Aesthetic is Clean

It doesn't have those hanging pull-chains or bulky frosted glass bowl lights that look like they belong in 1998. It sits flush to the ceiling and looks highly modern and minimalist.

The Only Small Con

If there is one downside, the installation instructions could be slightly clearer. If you've hung a ceiling fan before, it’s standard and takes about 30 to 45 minutes. If it’s your very first time, just take it slow and maybe watch a generic YouTube tutorial on DC fan installation first.

Bottom Line:

If you want a smart, quiet, modern fan with a remote and don't want to spend hundreds at a specialty lighting store, this is the one to get.

Need help wiring outdoor fan

Trying to install an outdoor fan. Opened plated electrical box and there is on 1 connectable wire (yellow). There is white and orange wire but they are effectively just running through the box (not cut or capped). The green grounding wire is off on the new bracket for the fan. Fan instructions seem to say there should be one live wire and 2 grounding wires (not one?). Can someone help?

Where would you place the Ceiling Fan?

What would you do? Where would you install the ceiling fan?

My current preference is to place it slightly closer to my desk (left wall) rather than keeping it perfectly centered, but I'm not sure if that's the best choice.

For reference, the room is approximately 8 × 6 meters, with a 1-meter-deep balcony at the bottom.

The X marks the current location of the ceiling light, which is also the most obvious location for the fan. On the right side of the room are three windows. The entrance is at the top, and the balcony is at the bottom. The square in the bottom-right corner represents the lowered section of the ceiling caused by the roof slope.

My desk is along the left wall. Besides installing the fan where the light is now, I'm considering moving it either halfway between the left wall and the current light position or halfway toward the windows. Which location would provide the best overall airflow?

So would you place it LEFT / RIGHT / OTHER spot?

Thx (also if there is a better sub please redirect)

Request help casa vieja turbina

I have a ceiling fan with 3 blades and 5 lights. It looks like a casa vieja turbina, except mine is white, possibly a model discontinued since purchase in 2018 (Casa Vieja 60" Turbina Industrial Retro 3 Blade Indoor Ceiling Fan with Light).

In 2018 the contractor installed the fan and put in a wall control which failed recently. Alas replacing the battery did not help. The control was only wired into a ground. Strangely, when i opened up the top i did not identify a receiver? I am asking for help identifying a compatible wall control, ideally similar in appearance, if possible similarly battery powered only, and I assume a related receiver.

Mount size

How do i get this new dreo fan on? The electrical box is 4inx4in with the mounting screws where the previous fan was screwed being 4 3/4" apart. The old ceilining bracket(bronze) allows up to 5" seperation between screws. New Dreo fan mount(black), the slotted spaces go up to 3 3/4" and the screw holes are 4 1/4".

Any easy fixes?

Can someone help me install my fan? There's two cables that go nowhere (green), a useless black one (non electric?) and, I need to know if a disconnector is necessary.

This is a ceiling fan with integrated light, with a remote control for speed and light intensity. The title says, but I'll make it more clear:

- The instructions tell me what to do with the 3 cables connected to the black box (remote control receiver), but not what to do with the other green/yellow cables. I have my idea (I assume they're the neutral ones, and they must be put together with the one with the same colour, connected to the black box?) but I'd rather have confirmation.

- there is a black, non electric cable. It seems something goes in, as it has a little hole on the tip? I have no idea what to do with it.

- Is a disconnector necessary, or will a circuit breaker do? I will be connecting the fan to a light switch, but research has told me I should not be touching it anymore.

Edit: I'm in France, and the instructions have been absolutely useless (they say nothing about the cables. I can gather the "n" connects to the other "n" in the cable connector thing, but I'd rather not just guess the rest of an electrical installation of it isn't obvious like that was). Also, the one video on the internet with this type of fan, did not help, but I contacted the guy who made it for help just in case lol

Also, English is not my first language!

This fan toast?

Turned fan on in my son's room and heard this noise. Looked up and there was a balloon wrapped up in the fan. Took light housing off and pulled out string and this noise is still coming from the fan.

Edit: the fan only makes the noise once it's up to speed.

Ceiling fan installation: fixing advice

Looking for some advice on installing a ceiling fan in our bedroom. The latest heat wave has spurred us into action.

The instructions (US manufacturer) are shown below and state that it requires an outlet box (capable of taking up to 15.9kg) to be used to fix onto a beam or between beams using an installation hanger bar.

The fan retailer (Henley Fan) said that it's a simple job that any electrician could complete. I've been sourcing quotes from local electricians but haven't found anyone that has a great deal of experience installing ceiling fans. The guy I spoke to yesterday was planning to fix the fan directly to the beam and didn't think an outlet box was necessary.

So where I would appreciate some advice:

- Is the outlet box a 'must'?

- The fans don't include an outlet box. What would be a trusted brand (I see them on Amazon, but I don't trust some of the cheap rubbish on there).

- Could this job be completed from inside the bedroom or would access be needed from the room above, through the beams?

We've splashed out on fans for all our bedrooms, so I want to make sure they are properly installed.

Many thanks!

Graeme

Looking for some help identifying fan and noise

I previously asked a question about another fan (hunter 25750) in the house I just moved into but now I've got a question about another fan in the house. Can anyone help identify the model, other than being a hunter I can't see any other markings identifying it. And if anyone has any guess what might be causing a rubbing or scrapping sound when it is in motion.

https://postimg.cc/gallery/3HcPfGT (since I couldn't do video and image images of the fan)
