Realtors and rep agreements

Are ya'll also getting told you must sign a rep agreement with a realtor to view anything? I find this wild. First of all, I dont even know this person I've just met and if they will actually commit time to me and second, it's a damn rental. This is getting out of hand with the gatekeeping by them infiltrating the rental space. I've had someone tell me it is legally required. Absolutely ridiculous and untrue.

State of the rental market

Hi all,

Looking for a sanity check here. I have been looking for a rental for many months now, mostly in the suburbs surrounding the city but also in Toronto proper.

I am in shock at what I have been seeing and I've seen over 50 now. I constantly see incredibly dirty places, with broken appliances or parts of the unit, and many places that smell so bad the realtor walks out before I do. I also seen buildings that are falling apart or atrociously managed where anyone I talk to in the building says run. I am also looking at higher price points for an individual than avg up to 2800, so not cheap places.

I'm at a loss of what to do because I can't take a risk of renting something so unclean that smells etc will linger even after deep cleans (and I have had this happen before).

Am I just having incredibly bad luck or is this just how things are now? I never had issues renting before a few years ago much of my adult life (pre pandemic). I've had realtors tell me this is how it is now and no one is spending money to maintain or clean their units with the economy.

Is this your experience as well? How did you find a clean and safe place to live?

Has anyone rented from a condo Corp (not a purpose built building)?

Wondering what the downsides would be and if a big company with lots of money could potentially chase me down if for some reason I had to break the lease early or something like that. It feels more risky to me than a private individual who you can talk to instead of property management who may just jack the rent up next year.

Thoughts?

Ventless dryer, renting, urgent q

Does anyone know much about ventless dryers? I'm looking to rent a place in a condo but the whole building uses these and I wonder if this will stink up my whole unit or if the neighbour's scents will travel to my unit. It's so stressful because everything else is great and I dont have much time to decide. It's one of the few places with unlived in units and that alone is huge for people like us. I didn't notice any odd smells in the 2 units I saw, just some remaining offgassing as the building is 2 yrs old.

Thank you!

The pacific condos junction

Anyone know what the deal with this place is? Gave them a call with very straightforward questions about parking price and was told it is case by case. Asked what that means and told he has to go back to his boss to ask so they can 'run the numbers.' Very odd. Seems like they dont yet have any structure or basic policies in place yet. This all started when I balked at him telling me parking was 250 a month and he kinda walked it back.

Anyone else have info?

Does anyone know the addresses of the condo collapse in downtown Markham a few years back?

Trying to avoid these buildings but all I know is it was Gallery Square, not the actual addresses.
