
Mercury 150 w/ 70hrs
What the heck happened to this oil drain plug? Mercury 150 EFI with 70hrs on it. I know you’re only supposed to open the valve a little and drain it but it was super tight the whole time so I was worried it was cross threaded or something and took it all the way out to look.
It’s like the orange o’ring disintegrated and lots of corrosion on the threads. I’m taking it to the mechanic that installed it tomorrow to see what they think, but thought I’d ask here as well
Edit: went to our merc dealer. They said this is normal and expected since we are in the Caribbean 🤷♂️. He cleaned the drain valve plug up for me and it looks brand new. Got new orings for it, greased it up, cleaned the threads in the oil pan and it’s sealing just fine. Hopefully the next annual change isn’t as bad since I put marine grease on the threads.
