I broke up with my girlfriend over things that seem petty, and now I don’t know how to feel

I just broke up with my girlfriend, and I’m caught in this heavy swirl of emotions—guilt, sadness, but also this strange clarity. We were together for 8 months, and at first, it felt magical—like we were in sync. But as the honeymoon phase faded, I realized something was off. She’s an incredible person—kind, pure, and so giving. She even started watching NBA with me and playing basketball, which I never expected. But over time, I felt suffocated—she was always attached, and I didn’t have the space I needed. And on top of that, something shifted in how I saw her—her beauty, which I once adored, started to fade. She relies on a lot of makeup, and somewhere along the way, I realized I wasn’t physically attracted to her anymore. That was hard to admit—like, it felt unnatural, like something was off. I also started noticing the accent differences—we come from different cities, and it gave me this odd, growing disconnect—not because she did anything wrong, but I just couldn’t bridge that gap. I’m about to turn 26; she just turned 22, and I realized we’re at different life speeds. I have to focus on my family, and even though she never demanded much, I knew I couldn’t be the partner she deserved right now. The breaking point was when she showed up at my house—I told her we needed a complete break, and she still came, even knocking on my door after I asked for space. I don’t know if it was the extra key or something else, but it felt like a violation of boundaries. After that, I knew I had to end it. It breaks my heart because she’s a good person, but I couldn’t keep going like this. If anyone has gone through something similar—when you step away because you need space—how did you know it was the right thing, even when it hurt so much?
