why do I like Peyton?

A few days ago, I made a post asking why I disliked Haley. Now I'd like to explain why Peyton is my favorite character and hear other people's perspectives, especially if she's your favorite too.

Here are my reasons:

  1. She's a well-crafted character.

Her personality is deeply rooted in her love of music, her sense of style, and the way she expresses herself through irony and sarcasm. I love that, from the very beginning, she was portrayed as more than just "the sad girl." Even through her pain, she managed to create something beautiful for other people, her artwork being the clearest example. I also love that her obsession with music eventually leads her to become a record producer. It's such an interesting character arc. I'm not saying that every teenager who loves music becomes successful, but many artists do dedicate themselves to their craft from a young age. To me, Peyton is a great representation of how music can become a way of healing emotional wounds.

Her curly hair is also one of her most defining traits. She has a strong presence wherever she goes, and in a way, it symbolizes the emotional chaos she's carried since childhood, while also reflecting her fiery spirit in the sense that she's emotionally complex and deeply passionate.

  1. She constantly puts other people before herself.

Although the show often portrays Peyton as someone who needs to be rescued, I've always seen her as someone who consistently prioritizes other people's well-being over her own, not asking them for help when she clearly needs it (which is wrong, but I get why she does such thing since she's independent and almost has been raised by herself).

After the Psycho Derek attack, almost no one seemed as concerned about her as they should have been. Yet she still managed to move forward without holding resentment toward her friends for failing her.

I'm not trying to romanticize the "martyr" archetype. We all need support from the people around us, and Peyton deserved far more of it than she received. But I admire her ability to carry so much on her own without making her pain everyone else's burden.

The only person who consistently chose to be there for her was Lucas. Not her father, and not even most of her friends. More often than not, they seemed more concerned with how Peyton's struggles affected them than with how she herself was doing.

  1. Her constant search for a home.

This is probably the aspect of Peyton's character that resonates with me the most.

At its core, her story is about belonging. About wanting to be loved, chosen, understood, and to have a place where she truly feels safe.

I'm not saying every decision she makes in pursuit of that feeling is justified. For example, asking Jake to marry her was clearly an impulsive and desperate attempt to feel like she finally belonged somewhere.

But that's exactly why I find it so human.

People make irrational decisions when they're desperate for love, stability, and connection. Peyton's mistakes don't make her less relatable, they make her more relatable.

  1. She carries more trauma than any other character.

I don't like Peyton because she's traumatized. If anything, I think the writers went way too far with how much suffering they piled onto her.

The cocaine storyline in S2, repeatedly losing Jake, watching Lucas declare his love for other women right in front of her, losing both of her mothers, surviving an attempted SA, being stalked, kidnapped, and later facing a high-risk pregnancy... the list just goes on and on.

After watching her endure so much, it's impossible for me not to want the best for her.

What makes her compelling isn't the trauma itself, it's the fact that she never develops a victim complex. Instead of allowing her unresolved pain to define her, she channels it into art, music, and eventually a career that gives her life meaning.

What has always struck me most is how often Peyton is abandoned. Considering everything she goes through, it's honestly surprising that she doesn't spiral into something much MUCH darker.

I think none of what happens to her is fair.

And maybe that's exactly why she feels so real since I've met people whose lives have been marked by one tragedy after another, yet somehow they still find a way to move forward. It's painful to accept that life isn't fair, but pretending it is would be an even bigger lie.

In many ways, life treats people the same way One Tree Hill treats Peyton's story: pain, loss, unresolved trauma... and, somehow, extraordinary resilience in the face of it all.

I'm here to read your opinions, please be kind and respectful!!

adicta a la validación académica (problematic)

Hola.

agradezco cualquier comentario.

why do I dislike Haley?

I've been rewatching the series ever since I finished it for the first time a few days or a week ago. And I constantly find myself wondering: what is it so annoying about Haley that I can't stand her? is it the actress? is it her performance? is it her character?

For example, in S6 she tells Lucas something about Peyton being pregnant and he says Peyton shouldn't have said anything yet. Haley says "she didn't!" and laughs and offers her help on the pregnancy and stuff, which is cute until she points out it was just a trick to get Lucas to watch the kids that night.

Moments like that are all over the series, and they're exactly why I don't like Haley.

Brooke is a very controversial character in many scenes where she is acting childish and selfish and even rude, but at least she has charisma.

Haley? I couldn't say the same.

that's my take, thoughts?

Peyton was never chasing Lucas

Peyton was never chasing Lucas, and I hate that Season 5 tries to frame it that way.

Here's what actually happened.

Lucas proposed to Peyton when they were only twenty years old. Peyton, quite reasonably, told him it wasn't the right time. She wanted them both to pursue their dreams first and believed they would have plenty of time to get married later.

They were both going through the uncertainty of their early twenties. Peyton was stuck in a dead-end job, while Lucas, despite struggling to get published, had a stable career and was already finding success. If anything, Peyton was the one who felt like she was "falling behind," so getting married was the last thing she needed at that point in her life.

Lucas, however, reacted immaturely. Instead of talking things through, he walked away without any explanation. He literally abandoned Peyton—the character whose defining trauma is abandonment, and who gets abandoned over and over again throughout the series. She deserved better. She deserved someone who wasn't Lucas, or at least a version of Lucas capable of matching his actions to his words.

Four years later, Peyton returns to Tree Hill because her dreams didn't work out. She's still basically the assistant to the assistant, trapped in a toxic workplace where she's dealing with both workplace bullying and sexual harassment. (At some point, you have to wonder whether the writers had something against Peyton. The amount of trauma they piled onto one character is honestly absurd.)

By then, Lucas has supposedly moved on.

The narrative wants us to believe Peyton hasn't—and, to be fair, she hasn't completely. But not because she's obsessively chasing him. Lucas represented "home" to her. Ever since her mother's death, she'd always been emotionally alone, so of course letting go of him wasn't easy.

Then Lucas sees her again.

He's the one who approaches her first. He offers her TRIC. They go to Brooke's boutique opening together, and he tells Peyton that the bartender isn't "good enough" for her. Later episodes, show us how he goes to see her at the TRIC under the excuse of "defending his girlfriend"

After that, Peyton tries to pay rent for TRIC, but Lucas refuses because he "just wants to help". She tells him during their fight that he gave up on them—that instead of waiting for her, he left her, completely contradicting the message of his own novel. Lucas was always great at writing beautiful words; the problem was that his actions rarely lived up to them.

at TRICs party, Peyton tries to give him the pay check again. Lucas refuses it and spends the entire night trying to talk to her. Peyton is the one keeping her distance and avoiding the conversation, but Lucas keeps pursuing her.

This is why I find it so strange when people claim Peyton came back to Tree Hill because of Lucas.

She came back because her career had fallen apart. The fact that seeing Lucas forced her to confront unresolved feelings doesn't mean she returned to win him back.

She starts her record label. She keeps Lucas at arm's length. In fact, their first reunion is incredibly awkward because Peyton simply wants to hug him hello, and Lucas immediately blurts out, "I'm with someone".

...What does that have to do with anything?

You can hug your ex the same way you hug Brooke. Peyton wasn't flirting with him—she was greeting someone who had once been the love of her life.

Then comes the kiss, which I absolutely condemn. But immediately afterward, Lucas proposes to Lindsey, which makes absolutely no sense.

Why would you hurt the woman you supposedly and allegedly love like that? Why kiss Peyton and then propose to Lindsey?

The truth is, Lucas never loved Lindsey the way he loved Peyton. For some reason, he spends the entire season lying to himself, even fighting for Lindsey with the same determination he once showed while pursuing Brooke in Seasons 2 through 4.

Why fight so hard for someone you don't truly love?

She literally leaves you at the altar. Why are you still insisting? What exactly was stopping Lucas from admitting that he was still in love with Peyton?

As a viewer, I think it would have been far more satisfying to see Lucas chase Peyton for once. Instead, he simply calls her out of nowhere and proposes—again. Once again, he never really has to earn her back.

That's what frustrates me.

Peyton is always emotionally available, largely because she has nothing else to hold onto. And somehow, her friends—especially Haley—make her feel like a failure: unemployed, unsuccessful, and desperately trying to get Lucas back.

As if Peyton were the one who needed to "move on" immediately.

As if Lucas hadn't written an entire novel about her.

As if he hadn't been pursuing her since before high school.

So, no.

Peyton was never chasing Lucas.

She was available.

Lucas was the one who repeatedly came back into her life, took the first step, showed interest, acted jealous, and then turned around and rubbed his relationships with Brooke or Lindsey in her face.

Honestly, I think someone could write an entire essay on how unfairly the writers treated Peyton. She goes from being shot with almost no lasting emotional exploration, to being stalked, kidnapped, and nearly dying, yet the people around her rarely seem to care as much as they should. The show constantly uses her suffering to move other characters' stories forward instead of letting her story matter.

Anyway, that's my take. What do you think?

No he publicado papers, ni artículos, etc.

Gracias.

Julian rant

OMG I HATE THIS GUY WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU'RE FRIENDS WITH SOMEONE YOU JUST MET FIVE SECONDS AGO OMG I THOUGHT THERE WASN'T A WORSE OPTION FOR BROOKE BUT JULIAN SHOWS UP AS IT'S WORST.

I don't like how is Brooke always chasing boys like be fucking for real she's Brooke Davis she can have anyone she wants.

Hate it bc Julian wasn't even THAT interested in Peyton when she had the accident and almost died for the high risk pregnancy and she was HIS GIRLFRIEND FOR LIKE YEARS.

How is he not putting Brooke first and fights for her? why does he care so much for Alex all of the sudden? why is he choosing Alex over Brooke? why did Julian pay for Alex movies and worried about her su*cide?dude be for real, no one is interested in her WHY DO YOU? why does he believe in her? WHAT'S YOUR REASON JUST GIVE ME A REASON.

this guy invited Brooke to L.A. with Sam, told her "I love you" after ONE month, stayed at Tree Hill in s6 for HER. how come possible this love bombing guy to be such a jerk.

so many questions.
