  • Removed Myrient as its officially closed now / 2. Rest in peace, it will be sorely missed. Thank you to their team for running it for so long.

  • Removed NekoGram + added to our unsafe list as it seems they were transmitting peoples account-phone numbers to one of their TG bots via a hidden backdoor / 2. Their devs are claiming they had no malicious intention, but the situation is sketchy so we're erring on the side of caution for now.

  • Unstarred Grok in Official Model Sites since its limits have been getting worse for free users (they are trying to push users towards paid plans) and they are actively blocking many email domain names including those used for temp mail. They have also taken features away and downgraded the versions of models free users get (you used to get 4 expert 4.20, now you get 1 expert 4.20).

  • Unstarred Arena as they've removed some of their better models / 2.

FMHY was made on April 29th, 2018, which means we're now 8 years old. I remember the exact day. I was going for a run, and during the run I was thinking about things like awesome-piracy, a list similar to FMHY, made a few years prior to us. I had also seen a comment on /r/Firefox, where someone had organized their favorite extensions into a nice list, and thought to myself, I could do that...

So I did.

I made a subreddit, named it something I thought people would find funny, and posted a list of sites I found useful at the time. I couldn't have ever fathomed how much I was about to change my life, how many people it would touch, and just how many individuals would come forward to help make it better.

Over the years, we've gotten an absolutely wonderful amount of support from people. It would be impossible to name every single person who has helped improve FMHY in some way, but it was their contributions and willingness to work together that made FMHY what it is.

Thank you to all the site owners for running the websites we post to FMHY. Thank you to all the developers who have turned it into a website, created bots for us, and helped FMHY survive. Thank you to all our link testers and contributors who give us their thoughts and advice. Thank you to our moderators for helping us keep chats calm and our active support crew for always helping those in need. Thank you to the thousands of people who have sent us cool sites to check out.

Together over the course of these last 8 years, we've transformed that 1 small list into 26 huge lists, with hundreds of subsections and over 27 thousand sites listed in total. We've had contributors from nearly every country on earth and met so many incredibly unique and kind people. This project has allowed me to spend so much of my time on earth contributing directly to something I believe in, and I cannot put into words how grateful I am for that.

A long time ago, we made a post promising you all that we'd never give up on this, and I know I speak for a lot of people when I say we plan to stick to that promise. Here's to harmony, to coalescence, and most importantly, to loving and working beside our fellow man into a brighter future.

TLDR - I wish you all infinite peace and happiness. We're truly grateful for the amount of love and support we've been given over these last 8 years. It's been unimaginably awesome.

Keep Android Open 🔓

Android will become a locked-down platform in less than 200 days.

In August 2025, Google announced that as of September 2026, it will no longer be possible to develop apps for the Android platform without first registering centrally with Google. This registration will involve:

  • Paying a fee to Google
  • Agreeing to Google’s Terms and Conditions
  • Providing government identification
  • Uploading evidence of the developer’s private signing key
  • Listing all current and future application identifiers

What this means for you

  • You will no longer be able to choose what software you run on your phone. You will be forced only to use apps that Google has deemed okay for you to install.

  • Creators / developers will no longer be able to make or share apps without first seeking the permission of Google, which will vastly limit the amount of good apps that exist, similar to Apple's ecosystem.

How you can help

Developers: Resist and refuse

If you are an app developer, do not sign up for the early access program, perform identity verification, or accept an invitation to the Android Developer Console. Respond (politely) to any invitation with a list of your concerns and objections.

It is only through developer acquiescence and capitulation that their takeover plan can possibly succeed.

Discourage fellow app developers and organizations from signing up to the program. Use community forums, social media, and blog posts to spread the message. Include the FreeDroidWarn library in your code to inform your app users. If you manage a web site, consider adding the countdown banner to the top of your page.

If you are a Google employee or contractor of good conscience and have additional insight about the program, including planned technical implementation details or additional rationales for the program, please reach out to tips@keepandroidopen.org from a non-work machine and a non-gmail account. Your information will be kept in strict confidence.

Everyone: Make your voice heard

Consumers: Contact national regulators

List of Regulators (at bottom)

Regulators worldwide are genuinely concerned about monopolies and the centralization of power in the tech sector, and want to hear directly from individuals who are affected and concerned. When contacting regulators directly, you should be polite and specific about the harm you believe these policies will cause, both to consumers and to competition.

Complaints are especially impactful when they are authored by a citizen of that country or region, and when the language of the email is written in one of the official languages of the region's governing body. Request a written acknowledgement of the complaint, and consider forwarding any responses you receive to victory@keepandroidopen.org so that we might highlight and reference them.
