Tiny headed barbarian versus Temple dragon

I shared both of these independently, always intending the barbarian to end up on a diorama type base, but not necessarily knowing what to do with the temple dragon.

This is my diorama style base and honestly I'm very happy with how it turned out. It actually makes me enjoy Mr Tiny Headed Barbarian work a little bit more 😁

The base is from Crippled God Foundry, and belonged to their corpse gatherer who got destroyed when I moved. I've always liked the bass, and thought I could do something fun with it.

I glued Mr THB down and left space to change out his opponent, right now it's the temple dragon, but I my find something more permanent to mount there.

The base itself is done was primed in Black, then I thinned some apple barrel elephant Gray, folk art linen toile and the craft smart gray and just went to town and played around with dry brushing till I was happy. After that I applied some AK dry ground terrain paste which worked very well. The tiles are a matte White reaper paint I think or army painter. And then I used a fine tipped pen thing to draw in the designs of the tiles.

Very poorly done barbarian

This barbarian is from Bones 4, possibly Bones 5?

I've never really liked him, in my opinion I feel like his head is too small compared to some other characters, and that's been keeping me from thinking about using him in a game. However I had a idea for a diorama and since I was never going to use this guy for anything else so I might as well practice some different techniques on him.

I played around with trying to make my speed paints get more depth of color, which I think worked out pretty well especially on the lion on his belt. I don't normally paint fur cloaks but I really do like the way this one came out and I think I have a decent technique for it now. The new leather method I played around with doesn't read very well on his battle skirt and bracers, so I'll just have to try it on somebody else.

For the weapons, I tried to do a magic axe with some sort of frost properties and that's so/so. For the sword I started doing non-metallic metal which went down hill pretty quickly on it and I got frustrated and ended up trying to do and obsidian sword, after multiple attempts at non-metallic metal. As you can see, there are so many layers of paint on this sucker the build-up is quite visible.

Hopefully once she's in the diorama you won't see the imperfections as much.

My first dragon

I really want to paint a dragon but I'm intimidated to do the larger ones cuz I don't want to mess them up. Thankfully Reaper has a ton of small dragons to practice messing up on 😁

This is a Temple Dragon (77503) and it was a pain in the ass to paint. After multiple false starts around colors I finally settled these.

When it come to painting this...well it sucked. The spikes were incredibly difficult and a little frustrating to try to paint and I couldn't really practice many of the techniques I've seen when it comes to painting dragons, the sculpt is challenging too especially on its tail I couldn't really tell where the fins stopped and started.

Overall I'm really not thrilled with the outcome, but it's one less miniature in the pile of shame, and one more opportunity to lean.

Would appreciate any feedback on this guy.

Back after my move

We moved into a new home last November and my workspace changed dramatically, I no longer have aslopsink to washy brushes in, I don't have a way to properly vent my airbrus, and a septic system when has been terrified about washing brushes. 9 months later and I still haven't figure out how to really work in this space.

I'm sure others in the community have these challenges and I'm looking for advice about adjusting workflow and how to deal with the septic specifically, (it's really keeping be from working on terrain projects)
