BlackBerry Radar Expands Asset Intelligence Platform with Dynamic Pairing

Dynamic Pairing moves beyond knowing where an asset is located and beyond traditional tractor-to-trailer pairing. When a driver connects to equipment, Radar identifies the asset relationship across tractors, trailers, chassis, flatbeds, containers and other equipment. That pairing intelligence helps operators understand how critical transportation assets are connected, identify incorrect equipment connections earlier and make better decisions across complex transportation networks.

Trust and confidence!

Don't think I've ever hear it summed up quite like this:

"We've spent 45 years earning the right to sit next to humans at 70 miles an hour. Now we're bringing that same trust to the factory floor."

"That's the real story. Not a vendor. Not a spec sheet. The system that's been in the room — or the car — every time trust was the only thing standing between a machine and a human life. And it never broke that trust."

... bottom line for me is that I trust Blackberry will do well, because it has to! Always has, always will!

Malikie, Xiaomi settle UPC patent case in Mannheim

Sorry, no details yet as article is paywalled, but this could be a big one!

Malikie Innovations, the Irish licensing firm that holds a large portfolio of former BlackBerry patents, has been suing Xiaomi in multiple jurisdictions, including a case at the Delhi High Court where Xiaomi was ordered to put up a $28.7 million security deposit.

https://ipfray.com/malikie-xiaomi-settle-upc-patent-case-in-mannheim/

Some suggest that the $28.7m ordered by the court is only between 1/5 to 1/10 of the original settlement already offered by Xiaomi.

However, there was an article saying the German Federal Patent Court leans toward invalidating Malikie patent asserted against Xiaomi in Munich.

Either way, whatever the settlement, money will be hitting balance sheets soon!

Malikie Innovations sues OnlyFans

Malikie Innovations Ltd. et al v. Fenix International Ltd. UK based Fenix is the parent company of Onlyfans.

Details seem to be limited (as it was just filed), but very likely to be similar to the already settled lawsuit against Match Group (Tinder, Hindge, Match, Plenty of fish...).

Just filling the hopper!

QNX and Hailo Join Forces to Advance Reliable Physical AI at the Edge

To demonstrate the benefits of running edge AI workloads on Hailo hardware with QNX, the companies conducted a benchmarking exercise using a Raspberry Pi 5 driving the Hailo-8 AI Accelerator, running on both QNX ®SDP 8.0 and a real-time Linux environment. The testing showed that AI workloads running on QNX OS can deliver high performance for AI on embedded devices, achieving up to 14x greater performance consistency, 2.6x tighter latency distribution, 4.1% higher throughput, and 3.9% lower average latency. Together, the results demonstrate how QNX and Hailo can help developers build AI-powered systems that are not only fast, but also more predictable and reliable in real-world operations.

.... from the white paper (link on site).

The Bottom Line

Using the same Raspberry Pi 5, Hailo-8, MobileNet v1 model, image set, compiler, HailoRT version and cooling configuration - QNX produced higher throughput, lower latency, and materially tighter timing consistency than PREEMPT_RT Linux.

Free Cars ....

Interesting take on the future of the car in general. Nothing to do with Blackberry other than the fact that this is exactly what QNX enables and has been working towards!

The only real question is how long will this take to monetize, both in the market and for the creators of the market!

Malikie and SAP infringement case dismissed with prejudice (usually means settlement)

So, another case hits the books instead of fighting it out in the courts!

Payments would have to be starting soon! Slow at first but growing significantly over time!

Everything BlackBerry is doing is growing towards the future.

Malikie resolves another lawsuit via settlement

So, I wasn't expecting to see a settlement of one of the lawsuits regarding the Cryptography patents quite so soon!

Apparently Malikie in July, after 399 days of litigation voluntarily dismisses on a joint stipulation.

Found in Mara's 10-Q filed with SEC:

"Malikie Innovations Ltd. et al v. MARA On May 12, 2025, Malikie Innovations Ltd., a non-practicing entity, filed a lawsuit against the Company in the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas, alleging that the Company’s Bitcoin mining operations infringe certain patents relating to cryptographic technologies used in the Bitcoin network. On June 15, 2026, the matter was dismissed following an out-of-court settlement between the parties."

It is time for the executive to give investors an update on the progress of the Malikie deal and when they are expecting to start receiving payment of licensing royalties.

Possible future for QNX

As the future approaches faster and faster from a technology perspective I am seeing endless opportunities!

Take for example the smart watch. At it's core, it's a peripheral device that includes a whole bunch of sensors and becomes a conduit for many other peripherals. The microphone, the speaker, screen GPS, Magnetometer.... The limitations are obvious to any user though. A constant balancing act between power, speed, and processing capabilities. Yet this device is basically tethered to your cell phone.

Now, take Samsung as an example of the evolution of technology. Rumor has it that their next watches are getting faster processors (like Qualcomm's 3nm chips), and they are also looking into running a RTOS instead of WearOS. The RTOS could help power management to last a week, perform more edge processing, and maybe even handle some AI functions, which could also off-load connectivity and bandwidth overhead with your cell phone. This evolution will continue, and as it does new opportunities and challenges will present themselves.

Blackberry sits on the cutting edge of these new opportunities and challenges as a company that has already identified and solved the most pressing issues for an entire industry of the most sophisticated and complex devices in todays market. I can't see the future, but I also can't see a future with-out Blackberry playing a role in it.

Malikie vs Canon - Swift Resolution due to Malikie voluntarily dropped the case....

Hi all, just wanted to throw this out to the hive, more so as a correction to some of my past posts. I have posted quite a bit of information regarding the Malikie deal with Blackberry, and particularly the progress that Malikie has made towards enforcing those patents.

So, I'll start by saying that all the information is highly speculative because every one of these cases and their possible settlements have not been disclosed.

Almost all of the litigation to date has ended in joint agreements to drop the cases and they were listed as "dismissed with prejudice" (meaning no more further action can happen). I have posted about these with the assumption that they were settled in the favor of Malikie, however Canon being the one exception to that where I had assumed Malikie lost, and therefore posted it as such.

The Malikie vs Canon patent lawsuit ended when Malikie alone voluntarily dropped the case with prejudice after 131 days. I took that as a loss because the case was over and Malikie could never re-assert those patents against Canon again.

However, apparently Canon never even filed a formal defense answer or motion. Yet Malikie voluntarily withdrew? That makes no sense! The patents in question were not at all linked together. I can't imagine why all 6 would be withdrawn particularly with-out a formal response or some sort of fight from Canon.

So, it is now my belief that Canon actually settled immediately! I also suspect it would have been expensive for them to do so!

Thoughts?

BlackBerry Secure Communications Solutions Are Zebra Validated

Way back in 2011, Blackberry and Zebra announced a partnership. Zebra was standardizing on the QNX Neutrino RTOS as the software platform for its portfolio of printers.

It always made sense to me based on their involvement in high security vertical markets such as health care. Just one more critical use case scenario!

So fast forward to now and Blackberry Secure Communications has now become Zebra Validated!

This means that BlackBerry AtHoc and BlackBerry SecuSUITE have interoperability with Zebra mobile devices under real-world operating conditions and secure, resilient communications across frontline operations.

https://www.blackberry.com/en/secure-communications/insights/blog/blackberry-secure-communications-solutions-are-zebra-validated

FYI: Before you say "what ever, how much can that be worth", did you know Zebra bought Motorola Solutions in 2014.... and have Millions of units are deployed globally across frontline enterprise workforces.

Still worth chump change in the big picture, but every advancement is a win!

Malikie sues OPPO again!

2026-07-29 18:34 Source: Intellectual Property Finance

Recently, patent operating entity Malikie Innovations Limited has filed a lawsuit against OPPO and its sub-brands Realme and OnePlus, as well as OPPO's European distributors, regarding patent EP3843496.

Translation by: Xia Yuxin, Intellectual Property Finance

According to information obtained from the official website of the European Patent Unified Court (UPC), Malikie Innovations Limited, the patent operating entity, has recently filed a lawsuit against OPPO and its sub-brands Realme and OnePlus, as well as OPPO's European distributors, regarding patent number EP3843496.

The UPC Mannheim Regional Court updated its case information on July 27, 2026, showing that the lawsuit was formally accepted on July 9. Previously, Malikie filed a lawsuit against OPPO at the UPC Mannheim Regional Court on February 2, 2026, involving patent EP2387862B1; on March 4 of the same year, he filed an additional lawsuit at the UPC Munich Regional Court. The patents involved in the previous two cases are the same as those in Malikie's lawsuit against Xiaomi in November 2025, namely EP2387862 and EP3797535.

According to Intellectual Property Finance, Malikie was founded in 2023 and is the patent operating entity of the Irish company Key Patent Innovations. In May 2023, the company acquired 32,000 patents from BlackBerry for $200 million, covering technologies such as wireless communication and information transmission; in January 2024, it obtained exclusive licensing rights to more than 2,000 of BlackBerry's cellular standard essential patents (SEPs).

Malikie has been negotiating with Xiaomi and OPPO since 2023, but progress has been slow. On March 2, 2026, Xiaomi filed a lawsuit against Malikie in the Shenzhen Intermediate People's Court to determine FRAND rates, requesting confirmation that Malikie is obligated to grant licenses under FRAND terms and should negotiate in good faith, while also determining FRAND rates for 3G, 4G and 5G SEPs within China.

Intellectual Property Finance will continue to follow up on further developments.

Case Background

In July 2025, Malikie sued Xiaomi in the Munich Regional Court in Germany and the Delhi High Court in India.

  • In November 2025, Malikie filed an additional lawsuit against Xiaomi at the Munich branch of the Unified Patent Court (UPC).

On February 2, 2026, Malikie filed the first lawsuit against OPPO in the UPC Mannheim District Court.

On March 2, 2026, Xiaomi filed a lawsuit against Malikie in the Shenzhen Intermediate People's Court to determine FRAND rates.

On March 4, 2026, Malikie filed a second lawsuit against OPPO in the UPC Munich branch.

On April 30, 2026, the Delhi High Court of India ruled in the Malikie v. Xiaomi SEP dispute, requiring Xiaomi to provide provisional security.

On July 9, 2026, Malikie filed a third patent infringement lawsuit against OPPO and its sub-brands Realme and OnePlus, as well as OPPO's European distributors, at the UPC Mannheim Regional Court.

Is Malikie shifting gears?

Malikie has seemingly cruised through their first list of litigation cases with almost all the companies targeted having settled out of court. The apparent second list of crypto based companies lawsuits is still ongoing over disputes of their Eliptical Curve Cryptology patents.

However, in their latest filing (Malikie Innovations Ltd. et al v. Abbott Laboratories Inc. et al) Malikie appears to have targeted the medical industry. Interestingly though, it's not the same list of SEP and Frand based patents involved.

I'm reading between the lines here, but these patents point to more serious violations of infringement. Instead of utilizing standardized and FRAND Wifi patents, these medical devices (in the millions) are connecting to, and transferring date with the users cell phone. I'm guessing that the technology establishes more of a client - server relationship which utilizes security, encryption, and data transfer protocols. It also appears that OTA updates and patching is involved.

If I'm correct, Malikie is not just starting to target a new company, but serving notice to a whole industry (medical)! Even more importantly, to a whole genre of devices that connect peer-to-peer, or client-to-server.

This isn't necessarily just about your pacemaker, glucose meter, or insulin pump. It could spawn into watches, headphones... pretty much anything you access to connect to with your phone or home network is probably using some chunk of Blackberry technology to do it (licensed or not).

Regardless of their success. It is quite amazing to, only now (decades later) realize just how much Blackberry's inventions and research has changed and shaped the world we currently live in.

You know who else uses QNX?

Yes. Both Anduril Industries and Archer Aviation (who partnered to develop autonomous hybrid aircraft) utilize the BlackBerry QNX real-time operating system (RTOS) in their technologies

Just sayin!

Archer stock rips 20% higher as company unveils military craft with Anduril

https://www.cnbc.com/2026/07/20/archer-thunder-military-craft-anduril.html

This is actually really interesting! Two companies using QNX for two totally different applications!

Anduril: They use the QNX OS for Safety and Hypervisor to run their artificial intelligence (AI) and autonomous navigation systems for their defense platforms and drones (such as the Ghost and Altius). Because QNX is highly secure and precertified for military-grade requirements, it helps Anduril pass strict Department of Defense (DoD) regulatory tests.

Archer: For their autonomous "hover-to-cruise" aircraft, Archer utilizes QNX to manage the real-time, safety-critical flight computers and electric powertrain technology
