Why are Global capability centers expanding into Tier 2 Cities like Indore

I’ve been noticing how Indore is slowly becoming more interesting for Global Capability Centers (GCCs).

What stands out to me is that companies are no longer looking only at the traditional metro cities. Indore offers a pretty practical mix — a growing talent pool, comparatively lower operating costs, improving infrastructure, good connectivity, and a lifestyle that can actually help with employee retention.

The bigger change is that GCCs themselves are evolving. They’re not just setting up support teams anymore. Technology, analytics, finance, engineering, AI and product functions are increasingly becoming part of these centers.

For me, that makes Indore’s growth feel less like a temporary trend and more like the beginning of a new phase for Tier-2 cities.

Maybe the next big talent hub doesn’t always have to be a metro. Sometimes, it can be a city that is simply getting the fundamentals right.

How many IT PROFESSIONALS work in Indore?

🤔

Whenever people talk about IT careers in India, the conversation usually starts with Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune or Gurugram.

But Indore seems to be getting interesting.

There are reportedly 300+ IT firms operating in the city, and the local tech ecosystem is expanding with startups, IT parks and newer technology investments.

What caught my attention is the growth in hiring — 10,800+ IT-sector job openings were reported in Indore in June 2025.

And unlike the traditional metros, Indore has a different proposition:

• Lower cost of living

• Growing startup ecosystem

• Strong educational talent pool

• Improving infrastructure

• Less intense commute than major IT metros

But here's the real question:

Can Indore realistically become a major IT hub, or will it remain a Tier-2 alternative to Bengaluru/Pune?

I'd especially like to hear from people who actually work in Indore's IT/tech industry.

👉 What is the IT job market really like there?

👉 Which companies are hiring?

👉 Salary vs Bengaluru/Pune?

👉 Would you move to Indore for a tech job?

Curious to hear real experiences rather than marketing claims.
