Turkey uses a centralized university admissions system. Students take the nationwide YKS exam, receive a score and ranking, submit a preference list, and are placed into programs centrally. This chart shows which majors appear among the most selective undergraduate programs in the quantitative track over time.
Most nights, I lie down with a headache.
I work hard every day, but it feels like none of it is actually helping. The disappointment I feel toward myself builds up until it becomes physical, like pressure inside my skull.
When I’m in bed, I start imagining the ceiling slowly coming down.
The room gets smaller and smaller until the ceiling touches my head. I have to turn my face to the side. Then it keeps pressing lower, crushing my shoulder, my chest, my ear, and my head.
I feel completely trapped. The pressure keeps building until, in my mind, my skull finally bursts into pieces.
And at that exact moment, I feel relief.
The headache disappears, and I can finally fall asleep.

I don’t know why my brain goes there. It doesn’t feel like something I want to happen. It feels more like my mind trying to turn emotional pressure into a physical image. But it scares me how comforting the ending feels.
