To sleeve or not to sleeve?

After nearly needing to repurchase the game Splendor because we wore out the cards, I decided a couple years ago to sleeve all my games. So for the past couple years I've sleeved all the games that I purchased that have cards (50+ currentboxed games, 2-3% magazine games and older games).

I have since realized that, unlike Splendor that I play with friends and family and hence play on a regular basis, most of my war games, except for my favorites (Castle Itter, by stealth and Sea, Pavlov's house, la Der das Ders, Operation fall blau , Ottoman sunset , and a couple of others) get played generally 10 times (give or take 10 times). Unlike the game Splendor, there doesn't appear to be much worry of wearing out the cards.

What do others think? For the lesser played games, does it make sense to sleeve cards just for consistency and protection? Or is this a waste of time and effort and money?

Favorite solitaire naval game?

I was looking through my collection the other day and decided that amongst the titles such as Carrier, Midway solitaire, by stealth and sea, raiders of the deep, Goebben 1914 ... I still find Tokyo Express to be my favorite. I think it's the combination of the granularity plus it being a game of battleships and cruisers rather than aircraft carriers.

I was just curious what others found to be their favorite title?

How many days per week/ hours the session do you play?

Last year I was playing 4 or 5 days per week anywhere from 2 to 4 hours a day. This year not so much. Trying to to play 1 or 2 hours a day once or twice a week. I spend weekends playing games like endeavour; deep sea or ticket to ride with my wife. H&C are my solitaire domain. Too many rules for my cohort.

I always have at least two games on the table. One that I consider a month-long game. Something like skies over the Reich or OST V5 and another shorter style game like American tank Ace or raiders of the deep.

I became curious how often others are playing? Is it just a weekend hobby where you play on Saturday and Sunday or do you always have a game setup to play?

Little Big Horn, State of siege/Tower defense type game

Anyone know if the battle of little big horn has ever been made into a state of seige type game similar to Soviet Dawn or Ottoman sunset with cards and point to point movement?

I don't think VPG ever created one so I am wondering if any other company or PNP might have created one. White Dog Games has a game but I don't think it uses cards nor does it use point to point movement.

Kind of surprising if not. Seems like the perfect state of seige/Tower defense conflict.

Techniques to overcome the initial inertia of learning a new game

I'm finding myself overwhelmed with the inertia of reading rules and learning a new game. These games aren't complex. They're probably a 2.0 to 3.0 complexity level on BBG, but I'm still finding it difficult to sit down at the table and go through three or four trial games to learn the game.

This is a rather recent and hopefully temporary disposition. I didn't have any issues learning D-Day at Omaha Beach or Comancheria. I usually enjoy reading rules and find clipping counters relaxing.

It's mainly the inertia of sitting at the table and going through two or three trial playthroughs and flipping through rules that I am having a hard time overcoming.

Anyone have any techniques or advice they may have used to overcome this inertia to learning new games?

Games/scenarios similar to Objective Moscow)

Anyone know of any games or scenarios of games similar to Objective Moscow where NATO is the aggressor and Russia is defending against a NATO attack? I've been looking around but haven't found or heard of any except for that old monster game by SPI.

OST, learning system- recommendations and best practices

I'm getting ready to play OST V5, first fight. On the surface, the rules seem similar to other h&c games such as squad leader. Given that, I have only glanced at the rules and am hoping to learn the game as I play.

For those familiar with the system, are there any specific items I should keep in mind or any best practices that I should use as I'm learning the system? The alternating impulse system makes complete sense to me. Movement and firing seem to be pretty standard. At my current level of understanding, nothing seems really surprising as far as rules go.

Thoughts, recommendations, best practices?

Would Battle of Sihang Warehouse make a good state of siege game?

Why or why not?

Just finished watching the movie 'the 800' and was thinking this would make a good State of siege or valiant defense type game?

Are there any more books planned for the books of Cthulhu series?

I miss any new stories with Harrison Peele, Harry Stubbs, or Captain Cook? Not to mention all the other characters and the other stories that kept me so enthralled throughout many and evening.

Detailed explanation of Tactical Edge?

I am playing a game where I make a "tactical edge" die roll to determine who attacks first. I have a vague idea of what "tactical edge" represents in the game. I am looking for a more thorough, detailed explanation of "tactical edge".

Anyone know of any articles or papers that talk about this concept with respect to H&C wargames?

TIA

Is there anyone here that might remember the name of the store that sold h&c war games in the 1970s in Dallas, Texas that was located in the European crossroads near bachman lake?

I remember I was 12 or 13 at the time and I can remember taking a bus to downtown Dallas and another bus from downtown Dallas to bachman lake to get to the store on a Saturday morning to browse all the newest h&c war games like squad leader and campaign for North Africa. But for the life of me, I can't remember what this game store was called? As I recall, they usually had miniature games set up on 4x8 plywood in the store.

Anybody?

Eastern Front doesn't have armor.

Next up are:

Combat! Crete

Combat! Tunisia & Sicily

and I saw rumors of a Combat! Vietnam (doubt there will be any armor in this, although I could be wrong)

None of these have any armor that I am aware of. Has Armor been given up on or are there plans on expansion packs with armor for any these games?

When I got back into the hobby this was one of the first games I purchased (along with American Tank Ace, Tiger Leader, and Zeppelin Raider).

I was little hesitant about the game at first but I stuck with these and now I really, really like this series. Especially the latest iteration, Eastern Front, I love the fact that I can play either side!.

just started playing broken logic and am new to the system. I have a question regarding Legends, and champions in particular.

in the long road rules under 1.5 Legends, the rules for Heroes say that Heroes cannot be targeted by an attack if there are other non-hero combatants in the hex.

is this also true of champions? does this mean that champions cannot be targeted if in a hex with other non-hero combatants?

does this mean that Legends such as heroes and champions can be targeted for an attack if they are alone in a hex?
