MA English Language and Linguistics / Anglistik - is it worth it?
hi guys! I'm currently finishing up my bachelor's degree in English and American Studies, and I'm feeling a bit indecisive: I wanted to pursue the master's in English Language and Linguistics after my bachelor's degree. However, I haven't met anyone who is currently enrolled in the program or who has already completed it, so I wanted to ask whether anyone would be willing to share their experience? I'm mostly concerned about the workload and the overall "payoff" of the degree. Is it worth it? Did you have a positive experience, or was it troublesome? If anyone has done their bachelor's degree at this department too I'd love to know if your experience has become more positive during the master's, and if it was more challenging?
I feel like the bachelor's degree was already quite demanding as is, and I'm aware that this degree may not be as highly sought after in the job market as others. However, I'm also a bit disappointed that my skills, especially my spoken English, haven't really improved as much as I had hoped during this bachelor's degree. I expect the master's to go way more into detail in linguistics, but I also want to improve my overall research and communication skills. If anyone could share some insights, I'd be very grateful.
Just as a side note: I aspire to work in the field of linguistics, however, looking at the job market, I'm not certain I will find a job easily, which is why I'm going for two masters degrees in separate fields, most likely communication science or sociology.
