Airport taxi overcharged

Hi everyone,
Despite being a pretty savvy and experienced traveller, I fell prey to my first taxi scam today.

Took a taxi from the taxi rank at Ciampino airport, knowing there was a fixed 40 euro fee to the hotel. Unfortunately, the driver insisted on a fee of 52 euros and despite standing my ground and disputing this for a few minutes (with a language barrier), eventually I just paid the amount. It’s a lesson for next time, but disappointing to see that this official policy isn’t being implemented and that there are some misbehaving individuals.

For reference, I usually don’t take taxis but I read a few Reddit posts that said that Termini station and the surrounding streets were a bit dodgy after 11 pm and advice that I should take a taxi as a solo female traveller with luggage. I’m assuming now that this is classic Reddit scare bait.

Thank you for everything as a first timer

Went to Tomorrowland for the first time this year and still feeling incredibly grateful so such an awesome weekend.

Loved the theme, the energy, the people, the music, vibes, how friendly everyone was and the feeling of being in a global party.

My heart has never felt so full. I’ve wanted to go here ever since I was in high school listening to Swedish House Mafia and Avicii. Music has defined and looped into so many periods of my life.

I teared up at the Avicii tribute knowing how much his music and his story has touched our collective community.

I have to come back.

6.5 layover in Hong Kong - sleepless with a snicker

Hello,

Currently in Hong Kong airport on a 6.5 hour layover. Due to some technical/process quirks, am having to collect my luggage and then check in again so my initial plans of heading to downtown Hong Kong have been scuppered and also have no lounge access.

Any other tips from folks out there on how to meaningfully pass time?
