Folding vs non-folding e-bikes: what matters more after you actually own one?

Not trying to start a folding vs non-folding debate 😂 but this is something we’ve been curious about.

At first, folding e-bikes seem like they’re all about convenience. Being able to store the bike in a smaller space, put it in a car, or take it on different types of commutes sounds great.

But then there’s the other side. A lot of riders still prefer a traditional frame because it feels more stable, especially when riding longer distances or carrying more weight.

The interesting thing is that folding bikes have changed a lot. With lighter materials like carbon fiber, some newer folding models don’t feel that far away from a regular bike anymore.

So for people who have actually owned or ridden both:

What made you choose one over the other?

Did storage and portability end up mattering more than you expected, or did ride feel and stability win in the end?

How are you guys keeping your e-bikes safe?

As more people start using e-bikes for commuting and everyday rides, theft has become one of the biggest concerns for riders.

Many people spend a lot of time choosing the right bike, but protecting it after purchase is just as important.

A good security setup usually comes down to a few things:

🔒 A reliable lock

A quality U-lock or heavy-duty chain is still the foundation of e-bike security. Cable locks are convenient, but they should not be the only protection for a valuable e-bike.

📍 Tracking and smart security features

GPS tracking, movement alerts, and app-based security can add another layer of protection. They cannot replace a good lock, but they can help you keep track of your bike if something happens.

🅿️ Better parking habits

• Park somewhere visible and well-lit
• Lock the frame instead of only the wheel
• Avoid leaving your bike in the same location every day
• Take removable accessories with you

Some newer smart e-bikes, including Urtopia models, are starting to integrate features like GPS tracking and alarms directly into the bike instead of relying only on third-party devices.

Curious what everyone here does:

What is your e-bike security setup? One lock, two locks, GPS tracker, or something else?
