An argument

My wife is a classically trained pianist and I play guitar by watching YouTube instructional videos. She knows her stuff and I don’t. Recently we argued whether E# and B# exist. I said no and showed her the fretboard. She said yes and showed me the keys. And said something like F is E#. I suspect she’s right bc she’s had music lessons. Tell me, fellow guitarists, do we have E# and B#?

An ignorant question

So this question came out of a place of ignorance. Since it’s about calorie deficit (this thinking is based on the responses in this subreddit), why do we even bother with IF? Can we eat three times a day and just make sure to eat under a certain number of calories? What does fasting do to the body that calorie deficit doesn’t do? Thanks for your answer. I’m just trying to learn about the advantages of IF.

Had pie and soda

I havd been fasting for 2-3 months now and lost 20 lbs, which is my goal. I had no snacks and sodas until yesterday when I went to a social event, when I had root beer and a couple slices of pie. I knew I was going to eat, so I accepted my fate. I had my usual dinner. Then I slept. This morning, I stepped on the scale like I usually do every morning. To my surprise, I actually lost 1 lb. I was like what??? What happened?

Someone please explain, clarify. Is it okay to treat yourself once in a while (without overindulging)? Does it take a few days for the weight to return? Or what happened yesterday will not have an impact on my weight.

No, I don’t plan to have cake or soda anytime soon. But if I do have them in a few months for a social event, I will not be too concerned about it.

Wrist pain (picking hand, not fretting hand)

I have been playing for years. My pain started recently when I alternate picking 8th and 16th notes. It’s the wrist on my picking hand. I see lots of posts about wrist pain on the fretting hand. I just want to make this distinction. Any advice on how to pick better these 8th and 16th notes? Thanks so much!

Oldtime jam sessions

I hope it’s okay for me to ask questions/seek advice here. I have attended several OT jam sessions and they tend to go very long. Only problem is that I only know about 15 or so songs. So there are a ton of songs that folks call out that I don’t know. I play guitar. My questions: are there certain strings (for the bass, the chuck part) that should be played for songs in certain key? Sorry if im not making sense. I’m just trying to pluck along certain bass strings for songs in the keys of D, G, and A in a way thst I could blend in with the rest of the music. Any cheat code for us guitarists who don’t know all the songs in a jam session? Thanks, and apology for the confusion.

Discouraging

I have practiced IF and walking for a month and a half and lost about 16 lbs. I feel really good, more agile, more physical. Women seem to notice when I’m out, which definitely makes me feel more confident.

I had a doctor visit recently. Everything looks normal but my cholesterol numbers are still high. The doc recommends medicine, which I will take. Has anyone had a similar experience? Were you able to lower your cholesterol? If so, how and when? Thanks for any advice!

NGD: used FS-5

New to me. I got it for $1200. It’s 1 1/2 years old and has KK pure mini. Is that a fair deal?

It sounds incredible, esp fingerpicking it. It also feels comfortable in my hands. I actually don’t use the pickup, so that was not a factor in purchasing it. Anyway, this guitar makes me at times want an FG-5 even though I already own an Eastman dreadnaught. It’s crazy.

I’m new to buying off FB marketplace. I’m interested in a guitar where the seller is local. How does one be safe? Where do you guys usually meet for the exchange? Do you use PayPal, cash, or some other payment? Thanks for any tips on safety.
