Am I ridiculous for being upset?

My son is a first grader and I pick him up daily. I went to pick him up today in the car rider line and I was told they don’t know where he is and to go inside. When I asked why they can’t find him she said they can’t hold up the line. I’m freaking out my kid is missing. I have to wake my infant daughter up who really struggles sleeping and go inside to be told he was outside the whole time and was told to go to spot 8, I was in 2. I’m not so much upset about a mistake, but to be told they don’t know where my kid is. I can’t tell if it’s the lack of sleep, ppd or if I am valid in being upset? I emailed the principal but maybe that was dramatic?

My son is 6 and we recently found out my best friend is passing soon and he is very close with her. I’m worried if I tell him it may affect him at school. He’s dealt with loss before, but I really feel like this will be different. He only has a month left of school and I really want to make sure it doesn’t affect him. Should I just wait?
