It's a pretty niche question. I wonder if someone who specializes in comparative linguistics or Germanic linguistics can explain that phenomenon where many names of birds between English, German, and French have nothing in common. (Examples below)

Blackbird (Eng); Amsel (Ger); Merle (Fre)
Jackdaw (Eng); Dohle (Ger); Choucas (Fre)
Duck (Eng); Ente (Ger); Canard (Fre)
Any idea why, on that topic, those 3 languages have nothing in common? Are there other areas where those languages often use 3 different paths?
(I am learning the names in German of the birds I see daily, and it struck me how different those 3 main European languages are regarding birds.)

Why did Debian install a new OpenOffice today...again? I'm pretty sure last week or the week before it had already installed a whole recent version.

Was there a bug or something in that Office?

Edit: I meant LibreOffice, ofc.

I see in my device that the last upgrade of LibreOffice was today, and before it was May 10, 2026. So less than a week, in fact. Not normal...

Do you have the same problem as I have for a couple of days now on Reddit? You do an emoticon and Reddit forces you an emoji instead. It's pretty annoying.

I'm on Firefox, but I guess it does that on any browser. Do you know a workaround to stop that automatic emoji? Maybe something with uBlock Origin?

Du nimmst mir is clear to me: You're taking me. Du nimmst mir die Sicht though it looks like it means: You're blocking my view?

So it is something negative, it seems. I heard it before in some songs and I thought it was something like "You get all my attention", kind of. Could it also be something positive or semi-positive, like "I'm drawn to you, (but I don't want to)"?

Like if you want to ask someone if "they" fixed the coffee machine in the store, you're not asking politely if that person had fixed it, but you're asking if their store (a vague person) fixed it.

I noticed it recently when using "sie/Sie" orally it can be confusing. Never sure if one talks about a vague "they" (like the Government of Germany) vs the person in front of you for which you are using the "Sie" polite form.
