Welcome to the OCTOBER edition of our Monthly Shlong Swap Review Exchange! Sorry no poster this time 🙁

In this exchange, we offer up our short-long fics and swap with other writers for a minimum of 10k words.

DEADLINES – all are 11:59 PM EDT (UTC-4):
To enter: October 7th
To finalize swaps: October 10th
To complete swaps: October 24th

THE RULES:

Offer up a long fic, or a specific arc of a long fic, which is at least 10k words. Works must be posted at the time of the swap. In your entry, include: title and link, fandom, rating, summary, any content warnings (spoiler triggering and NSFW content), and the word count being offered (specifying whether this refers to the whole fic, a set number of chapters, or an arc).
Look through the thread to find stories to swap for. Swaps can be for chapter count, word count, or a combination of both, provided it’s explicitly agreed between both parties upfront. You may turn down a proposed swap for any reason, you don't need to explain why.
Record your swaps clearly, including the Reddit username of your swap partner (without the “u/”) and a counter for the number of chapters you have agreed to review. Mark swaps once they are complete, as below:

>Swap 1: Reddit Username – 0/2
Swap 2: Reddit Username – 3/5
Swap 3: Reddit Username – 10/10 – completed

Participants may not have more than three (3) incomplete swaps at any time.

If you are unable to find a swap partner by the deadline, you have no review obligations. However, please do not delete your entry, as the mod team will need to take note of this.

IMPORTANTAll the usual subreddit rules apply. As per Rule 8, all reviews must be genuine, thoughtful, and detailed, with a minimum of 50 words about the fic itself per chapter, demonstrating you’ve actually read the agreed portion of the fic.

Concrit (constructive criticism) and mentioning that you are “fandom blind” or “from Reddit” are opt-in only. Don’t include any of these in your reviews unless the author has explicitly said they are welcome.

Shiptember: OT3+ Exchange!

Hey all,

It’s time for this week’s Shiptember exchange OT3+! This exchange is for all our poly ships! To enter you may submit up to 3 fics in return you must review two fics by two separate authors. Your entry should contain the standard information: Title/Link, Fandom, Pairing, Rating, Summary, Word Count, etc. All NSFW/triggering content needs to be spoilered and you must include a review counter in your entry (0/2).

Entry Deadline: Monday September 21st, 6:00 PM CST

Review Deadline: Friday September 25th, 6:00 PM CST

Reviews must be genuine, thoughtful, include specific details, and a minimum of 50 words about the fic itself, demonstrating that you have actually read the story. Constructive feedback and mentions of being “fandom blind” or “from Reddit” are opt-in only. Only include these if the author has explicitly stated they are welcome.

You should leave your reviews on the works itself (AO3, FFN, or other fanfic sites) then reply to the author’s entry here to let them know, like “K&C” (Kudos and Commented).

October, is right around the corner! You know what that means: Kinktober, Whumptober, Flufftober, all the -tobers!

Like last couple of years we are organizing a writing challenge for the month of October! We will have a themed-exchange for each week of the month in a different category. Please read this post in its entirety for details!

For this challenge, write a fic in any of the following categories whump, fluff, kink, or OC!. You may choose your own prompt or ask for me to give you one. Specify which category you are writing for and I'll randomly generate you a tag to use. If you don’t want to pick a category and want something random, let me know. Even if you don't request a prompt, please comment to let us know you’re participating.

You can write for as many or as few themes as you want

You may request one prompt change

No word count limit

When we get closer to October, we will have a collection to post the fics to.

We will be having weekly Review exchanges throughout the month.

The schedule is currently:

October 17th Kink RE

October 24th OC RE

So be sure to have your fics done by your respective exchange. You are welcome to write multiple fics/request a prompt for each. You are welcome to enter your fic in multiple -tober exchanges if it qualifies for multiple categories.

If you are done before the deadline, you may post to the collection anytime! However we do recommend that you post your fic/fics in October since it's an October challenge. We also recommend to hold off on entering your fic/fics in too many REs before the challenge REs, so people don’t read them until then. But ultimately, it's all up to you. The point of this is to be a relaxed sort of challenge

This exchange is closed to new entries

Hey everyone! It’s time for a review exchange with a twist - instead of offering up a fic or a profile for others to choose from, you specify a type of story you'd like to read, and other participants recommend you suggestions from their own fics.

Here's how it works - you post a request (to get the best recommendations, be specific, but not super narrow), examples might include:

* Hit me with your fluffiest G or T-rated slice of life stories, or

* I'd like to read M/M smut, the spicier, the better, or

* I want to read the most action-packed scenes you've got

Others will then post suggestions under your comment. You're required to read and review at least four (4) of the suggestions you get (leaving kudos is nice, too!) (There's a long deadline because it's at least four reviews)

Once you've entered, you're then free to pitch an appropriate fic of yours in reply to as many others' requests as you like! When you do, please spoiler anything NSFW, and include the link, fandom, rating, and word count.

A few rules, because it's a different sort of exchange:

* Before making recommendations to others, you need to join the exchange (post a request for recs), and in order to participate you will need to read and review other participants' stories. Recommendations from people who haven't entered properly will be deleted

* Only recommend one (1) story to each relevant participant\- it's not in the spirit of the thing to list a million stories for them to pick from, nor to link your entire profile. And please try to keep your recs short - no essays :)

* In keeping with the key tenets of the sub it is important that you frame what you would like to read *positively*. In keeping with rule 12 on this being a safe space for all, do not provide a list of dislikes/'don't wants' on your post. Please also don't list a set of fandoms to read\- again, because of the principle of inclusivity. Mods will ask you to edit your post if it breaks these tenets, and if it's not fixed, your entry will be removed

* Please track, on your entry, the number of works read (#/4). Reviews should be genuine and thoughtful, at least 50 words (not counting quoted lines); concrit, and mentions of ‘fandom blind’ and ‘from Reddit’ are opt-in only

* After you've left an author a comment on ao3, reply to their recommendation on here to let them know. You do not need to reply to all of your recommendations, just the ones you choose to read (please do not say why you aren't reading a particular fic)

Happy Birthday r/FanFictionExchange!

Happy Monday everyone! You may not know it, but this is a very special week with a very special anniversary that we’re hoping you all will celebrate with us.

3 years ago, this sub was created as a safe, uplifting place for writers to share their work and build community. What started as a small sub, has expanded into a group of over 8,500 members.

It’s been amazing to see how far we’ve grown. To those who have been with us through the years: thank you. And to those who have just joined: welcome. Each and every one of you is a valued and important member of our community. We hope that r/FanfictionExchange will continue to be a safe, inclusive, and welcoming space for years to come.

When I stepped into this role two years ago I could’ve never imagined how much this community would grow and what an important part of my life it would become. I know the other mods feel similar.

So on to the celebration! Later today there will be a special themed exchange. In addition, throughout the week we will some fun mod-hosted activities. These activities will give us a chance to reflect on these three years and get us excited for everything that is to come.

So from the entire mod team: never stop writing, reading, and expressing yourselves. Continue to do amazing work and don’t be afraid to challenge the status quo.

HOW IT WORKS: This is a subreddit event where everyone posts their AO3 (or FFN) profile with some information about the kind of fics they write. Then, the other participants will look through their profiles, read a one-shot or chapter by the author, and then leave a comment on one of their works. (A kudos would be nice too!)
