I've been working on a momentum based player controller, similar to Titanfall

This was just an exercise to help me learn more about player controllers and making 3D games, but I have a lot of ideas for this character I modeled and don't plan on stopping any time soon, so maybe it'll turn into a full game someday :P

I overhauled the item system in my racing game so I could add more mobility for players that are falling behind - 7186-1561-4005

Now it supports placement based item sets that can automatically remove items after they've been used, allowing me to add more movement items that use durability like the chainsaw, rocket drill, and bass boost. Players that are falling behind will now see way less grenades and a lot more movement to help them catch up, so hopefully everyone can stay closer together throughout the whole race!

It also dynamically adjusts to player counts so that you still get appropriate items based on your range between first, mid and last, and there's a separate item set I made specifically for 1-2 players that removes extra bloat to focus more on items that are useful for shortcuts and speedrunning! If you're doing solo runs then you'll start with a flintknock and tire so that you don't have to rely on RNG for the first item boxes :)

I made various other QoL improvements like in game patch notes, smoother transitions, and more decorations in the lobby. I have some onboarding improvements planned but hopefully I can start working on new tracks soon! Feedback is appreciated as always 🫶🩷

My racing game called Rocket Drifters is finally out after 6 weeks!! 7186-1561-4005

I wanted to release it as soon as possible so some QoL features like a leaderboard and stats display aren't here yet, but I am working on them! You can expect regular updates going forward as I continue to polish the game and add more content :)

I've been working on a bunch of new gameplay features for my racing game!

  • Dynamic respawn system that aves your position and rotation every second as long as you're touching the ground and transitions back if you fall of the map
  • New model/material for custom item boxes + different box types
  • Holographic arrows on the edges of the track
  • Higher FOV cameras and a new centered camera option
  • WIP underwater sections

Huge thanks to u/GEEDLEBEAN for helping out with the custom materials for the item boxes and transition effect! 🫶

I'm really liking how the first map in my racing game is turning out so far :)

Eco-futurism, solarpunk, and frutiger aero are my main inspiration for the color palette, lighting, and building designs

Here's a look at how items will work in my racing game!

To clarify some things:

  • Items have a rarity that determines how likely you are to get it
  • Each rarity focuses on different item types, so simple disruption items are in common, more aggressive damage items are in rare, and weapons only show up in epic/legendary
  • There's 3 healing items (med mist, chug jug, chug canon) but you'll also be able to heal over time and find health zones or power ups during the race
  • Different gamemodes will have different items, so you can expect to see more chaos!

The coins are also just placeholders for item boxes and the water is only there for testing!

I guess I'm making Rocket Racing 2 now

I got the core gameplay design figured out and started working on the actual racing mechanics!

  • No more walls, so you have to drift to stay on the track
  • Railings in the inner parts of the turns so that it's more difficult and skillful to take shortcuts
  • Custom UI, which I'll continue polishing and adding more features to:
    • Time for each lap
    • Placement number
    • Scoreboard/player list (unsure if there will be room)

I appreciate all the support and can't wait to keep working on this project! 🫶🩷
