Can you mix a minimalistic style with an earthy style? (black, grey and dark grey vs. red, green, and brown)
Me and my boyfriend just moved into a new apartment with each other for the first time, and we’ve both never been on our own before. And as the title suggests, we have very different styles. But please keep in mind as you read we just moved in about 2 months ago so decoration wise we don’t have much!!
He is on the minimalistic side of things and is a gamer, so the majority of his set-up is black. (His office is the one with all the Funko Pops) With that being said, he also got to the apartment a few months before I did (we moved states) and bought the “basic” furniture we needed aside from the couch which was given to him. This would include a bed frame, night stands, and a tv stand. The rest of the large furnishing like the dining table, coffee table, the dresser, and bed spread (minus the blanket) was by both of us that we compromised on, or thought it looked best in that area.
Now I’m the one who loves earthy tones; all the reds, deep blues, greens and browns are so pretty!! (room wise, my office is the one with the colored lights) However I feel like my boyfriend is allergic to color because when I wanted to buy solid colored pillows for our couch, he essentially said no and that he doesn’t like it. I want to add color via plants, throw blankets, pillows, and small decor items but I can’t seem to find anything he actually likes.
We did go to Ikea recently and I took him through the showrooms they had to see if I could gauge what he did/didn’t like, but he only liked bits and pieces of some of them so it made it a little harder for me to understand.
So I come to you Reddit, please any suggestions or ideas for decor would be amazing!! We’re still decorating so there’s not much, but we aren’t planning on getting any new furniture… so we have to work with what we have!!
