[16/08/26] PICNIC PARTY 16TH AUGUST Green Park 🎉

hiya

me and some friends (~8 girls ~8 guys, aged 21-28) are doing another little picnic party soon. Did one of these earlier in the month and posted here, and managed to meet someone pretty chill. This is the part II!

we’re an open minded bunch that love meeting new curious & engaging people (the type of people that would respond to a post like this) so I thought I’d put this out there. We're all quite nerdy and eccentric

DM or leave a comment if interested. I got space for three more, and first come first serve!

Scan Result: How bad is this?

Got my MRI back recently.

I have a l4 l5 herniation and my symptoms are the usual persistent lower back pain, difficulty sitting and sciatica. From my understanding this herniation is quite mild and shouldn't be affecting me as much as it is? Here's the report:

There is mild degree of straightening of the lumbar lordotic curvature. The marrow signal intensity of all

the included bones is preserved with no suspicious focal lesions. All the included vertebral heights are

maintained and no spondylolysis or listhesis is seen at any level.

At L4-5 level, there is mild diffuse bulging disc annulus with broad-based posterocentral disc bulge and

radial tear in the penultimate fibers of the annulus fibrosus which is causing mild anterior thecal sac

compression but no compromise is seen of the thecal sac contents as such. There is bilateral mild to

moderate hypertrophic facet arthropathy and mild left-sided ligamentum flavum thickening is also seen.

There is mild impingement of the bilateral transiting L5 nerve roots with mild impingement also seen of

the left exiting L4 nerve root. The right L4 root is not compromised.

The L5, upper 3 lumbar and the included lower 2 thoracic discs show normal hydration with no

herniation. There is no compromise of the thecal sac and the subarachnoid space at these locations and t

included lower cord and conus medullaris are normal. There is no compromise of the transiting or

exiting nerve roots at these levels.

There is variable degree of mild hypertrophic facet arthropathy at most lumbar levels.

Bilateral sacroiliac joints are normal. The pelvis is separately evaluated.

All other included structures are normal.

Conclusion: The important findings are seen at L4-L5 level with disc degenerative change and mild

impingement of bilateral transiting L5 nerve roots with mild impingement also seen of the left exiting L4

nerve root which can explain the patient's clinical symptoms.

Normal planks for sciatica and disc herniation

I’ve been doing a lot of side planks as per the mcgill method, and they’ve been quite helpful.

I’m wondering how many of you have also found standard planks helpful? Is there a chance it might worsen my l4 l5 herniation and sciatica?

Does the Bird dog help or no?

I’m hearing a lot of conflicting things about stretching and its efficacy. Many people recommend it, many people say it’s worse for nerves. I don’t know who to trust? To be more specific, could the bird dog exercise be making my symptoms worse? If so, how/why?

What actually works? New here HI

Hello people. Was diagnosed with mild l4 l5 disc herniation recently and I’m extremely worried about it getting worse, so imma be in this sub and the backpain one for a while

As well as some lower back pain I also Have sciatica mostly down my left leg, but also a bit of pain and numbness down my right. I’ve been stretching and walking a fair bit, somewhat inconsistently though. Made the plan to be very conscientious with recovery in the weeks to come.

I’m wondering what LESSER KNOWN things you’ve done to improve symptoms?
